Heres a question I could do with having answered. I never went outta my way to ask this one, but noticed you guys talking about IDE cables & stuff.. Had a look for the answer in here, but couldnt find it...

Why do you NEED the 80 conductor cables for the faster drives? Electrically there can be no difference, as the connectors are still only 40 max. So is it just a higher grade cable? If so, why not just make a higher grade 40 conductor cable?

Cheers,

Tom...

The 80wire cable (Ultra Cable) has 40 regular wires and 40 ground wires to shield the data flowing across the cable better. With the faster transfer rates they need it to aviod data corruption.

Like you were saying, it is just a higher grade cable!
