Hi all!

This is my current system that I built in 2020:

GIGABYTE B550 AORUS PRO AC
AMD Ryzen 7 3rd Gen - RYZEN 7 3700X
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB
GIGABYTE - G27Q - 27" IPS Gaming Monitor
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB 3600 MHz)
Intel 665p Series M.2 2280 1TB
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 GA
Fractal Design Meshify C Black

I'm not a huge gamer by any means but when I have time I usually play games like GTAO, HITMAN, Metro or Chernobylite in 1440, nearly max settings limiting frames to my monitor's capability. Currently waiting on STALKER 2 to come out, then GTA VI of course.

I am thinking about upgrading CPU/GPU to have enough juice for the new GTA and STALKER games when they come out. When I don't play, I do some video and audio work + coding.

That said, I am torn between:
  1. AMD Ryzen 7 5700x3d due to price ($150 after tax on AliExpress)
  2. AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, which I hope will drop in price soon.
As for the GPU, I've been eyeballing
  1. XFX Speedster QICK319 Radeon RX 6750XT CORE
  2. GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7700 XT Gaming OC 12G
Appreciate any help!

If you aren't needing a performance upgrade now, and are willing to wait awhile, the Nvidia 5000 series announcement is right around the corner. Even if you don't pick up a 5000 series card, the 4000 should subsequently drop in price as a result. Especially considering GTA 6 hasn't been announced for PC yet, and like GTA 5, likely will not release until it's been on console for at least a full year, the 5700XT may be able to tide you over until then, considering gaming isn't your top priority.

As far as the CPU choice, the 5900X would be the better option if you don't play games much, and if you really need a 12 core processor. However, keep in mind that AM4 is likely not seeing any new product refreshes, meaning you will be buying into a platform no longer seeing support. Similar to the GPU, it may be worth waiting if you don't want to spend the cash on a 7000 or 9000 series AMD chip.

Good thinking here. As for AM4 dying soon - absolutely not a problem . I don't replace my phone every time a new one comes out every year; yeah, I'm one of those lol. I have been eyeballing 5900x or 5950x even, I'm sure the thing will last me close to a decade. I just looked at my posts from 2011, I mean I was on this system up until 2020 LOL
