Question What are the differences and performance difference? of pcie

Hi I have an Asus Tuf Gaming B650 M Plus motherboard in which there are two Pcie x 16 Slots 1 & 2. Yesterday my Gpu [ RTX 4080 ] stopped getting detected on Pcie 1 which is "1 x PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot" but getting detected and working normally on Pcie 2 which is "1 x PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot (supports x4 mode)". My question is what is the difference between both Pcie slots and do performance differ? as i have no clue about it. Thanks

first pcie slot is from the cpu pcie lane
the 2nd is from the chipset pcie lane
