[SOLVED] What can I do to get out of this checkmate position?

5 years ago I bought FM2 motherboard with x4 860k, it was alright then but x4 860k is the best CPU for FM2, with a budget of 100-200$ how can i get a new MoBo and CPU that will be a substantial upgrade?

You can't. Because you not only need a new CPU and motherboard, but new memory as well, because there are no worthwhile platforms you can upgrade to that are compatible with DDR3.

This is about the best upgrade you can do on the cheap right now that would be worth spending the money on beyond what you already have. Be back with that shortly.

Your solution needs to include a CPU, motherboard, and memory. The DDR3 memory your FM2 rig uses isn't of much use with modern tech.

Actually, I guess you can. This gives you 8 thread capability, and a motherboard that you can put a substantially better CPU into later if you decide to upgrade as well as add memory capacity later although there are no guarantees when ADDING memory, so if you want 16GB you might want to look at the build below this one and spend a few more bucks.

Thanks guys, i knew it was long shot, but with this rig i was basically facing a wall, i guess ill slowly work towards those 184.97$

I added another option, with 16GB of RAM which I'd highly recommend you consider, in the second build up there.

Considering it's only 30 dollars more, it is WELL worth the cost of the additional 8GB of memory for most systems these days unless you are only a VERY light gamer and do not plan to play any demanding AAA titles. If you do, get the 16GB.

ah, right, i already know this having 8GB of ram, i do what i like to call "console streamline" where i turn off taskbar all apps basically everything except the game and turn the game priority to high, ill definetly consider it!

By the way, do you have a video card in your current rig, or are you using the APU's integrated video device?

Keep in mind you should be able to sell your current parts for a few buck also. Maybe not a lot, but I'm sure someone looking to build a simple system would buy your old parts for $40 or 50.
