I have a Gigabyte GA-970a-d3 now i am sure this is the rev 1.0/1.1 (this is purely by look of the board, i haven't pulled it out to see if its marked anywhere and don't really want to) it has the 5 chokes, no heatsink over mosfets (i butchered an old Asus 512MB silent vid card to make a heatsink for it, dropped temps during prime95 by 10c) and it has the 108dB mark visable on it, so by sight its a 1.0/1.1, but when i open CPUID i see this
Chipset: AMD: RDx9. Rev:02
Southbridge: AMD: SB910/950. REV:40
and also recently installed f12c bios.
now seen about the same of each but can't get a definite answer. 1st: i won't be overclocking, 2: my old cpu had the good stock cooler with the heatpipes! 3: i don't play too harder core games, all i play is LOL, WOW, Swtor, but i do record with bandicam and render with camtasia7!

so can i fit an 8320 or 8350 on this mobo, or should i just get a 6300, had this faithful for 5 years (only 2 upgrades, a vid card and a new psu), and don't really want to fork out for a whole new rig

Thankyou, hmmm i find it odd, it can handle the 6 core 125w FX-6200 and the Phenom II X4 965 140W, so it clearly has the TDP to handle it! but can't find any solid reason why it can't take the FX-8320, i know they did something in a bios update, someone mentioned this on another forum.

But anyway since then for where i live (Australia) the better/cheaper option for me is to go the way of the A10-7850k!, might keep and eventually rebuild this as nostalgia and put the fx-8320 on there eventually just to see! who knows might turn out to be a good home server computer!

Thankyou all for your responses!
