What card to buy?

Im buying a video card soon, getting rid of my slow nvidia 9400GT .. so i was wondering which chard should i buy? im spending 180$ max
I want to buy one of em

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770 160$
GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5770 170$
MSI Radeon HD 5770 R5770 Hawk 180$


I was going to buy a HD 5770 XFX but i saw in newegg's feedback that this card has heat problems and crash.
my PC is on 24/7 but im not really playing 24/7, i'll only buy this card so i can play GTA IV like 2 hrs a day or so im not playing any other game, will i have problems if i keep my PC on 24/7 without playing?
Also, my mother board is a Gigabyte ud3r X58 i believe this mobo only supports PCI-Express 2.0, and the cards i listed above are 2.1 will i be able to run them with my motherboard?
Btw my screen is only 1440x900

GTA 4 is a bad coded game...
With dual core proc you must get it to above 3.0GHz or quad core proc is better.

For $160 I'd probably pick up the Sapphire Vapor-X model. I do like the MSI, however, it isn't worth the extra cost.

I am assuming you looked over your power supply specs to make sure it can run a 5770. They aren't that power hungry, but you still want to make sure it fits the bill.

I'd be looking at a GTX460 as well. It depends on how flexible the budget is and what PSU it is. They have slightly different power requirements.

Just take a look at some of these benchmarks and you'll see the real benefit of the GTX 460. I understand you were looking at ATI cards, but this is an exception really worth your time. The 5770 sits underneath the 460 in every benchmark on this review and that's even the 768 MB version. If you go to the power consumption page as well, under load the 460 needs more power ( a good 30-50W more depending on which 460 ), but even then it stays cooler than the 5770.

I'm not sure why the .com site doesn't offer the same, but at newegg.ca you can get the zotac card with a lifetime warranty, something that really helped me pick.

Really it just boils down to another $20 for the 768MB and a big jump in performance, as long as your PSU has that extra little bit.

In the details section for that card it clearly states that it has a 2 year warranty. Lifetime warranties are mostly a sales gimmick anyway imo. 2-3 years will cover the useful lifespan of most gaming cards.

I'm not going to give links, but I like the vapor-x because of it's special water coolingish thing keeps it cool for way better overclocks, so that's what i suggest you should buy

I vote for the Hawk, its proven to be the best 5770 out for the money, Saving 20.00$ by purchasing one with the "egg" shaped cooler may cause more headaches than needed, the hawk stays nice n cool and is not loud at all compared to the other models. Also comes with MSI Afterburner and the voltage control.

I dont think i need a GTX 460 for GTA IV, My processor is an i7 920 @3.42 Ghz
Yea i was thinking about buying a GTX 460 since this card is 192 bits and everyone knows nvidia is better than ati but i think the HD5770 will work fine for GTA IV since my screen is only 1440x900 it shouldnt have problems running GTA at max settings
Edit: By the way, my PSU is 550W running my i7 920 @ 1.13V

Ok i found another card that seems to be good for the same price as the Nvidia one, 200$ its HD5830 GDDR5 256 bits the Nvidia is 192 bits GTX460

Ok this is my last question before ordering the card, which one is better? the ATI 256 bits or nvidia 192 bits? ATI is 1GB nvidia is 768mb soo?

Sorry, the 1Gig version was the only one with the lifetime, I assumed it was on both. I've also seen a lifetime warranty come in handy before, I really try to push stuff to last way longer than it should. It's all IMO though.

Don't actually, get the 1gb card instead. It has the same combo and has a promo code for today that makes it only $210 shipped. It is certainly worth an extra $10.
