I know this sounds stupid, but what does aniso do? I see no difference between 0x and 16x in any games, just lowered FPS. I love AA and hi-resolutions, but have never grasped what aniso does.

Damn Rambus.

Clicky for the link above. Good read.

Captain Obvious says that in certain games distant textures are blurred, especially due to Anti Aliasing and you will see divisions between texturing areas near and far!

Ansio smooths out such divisions and improves the clarity of distant textures!

We covered this a little in a previous post, here's a link to that post. I included a few links for both AA and AF.

You sorta already have the gist of it from what's been posted so far this is just a little more (probably more than you need).

Wow, after looking at all those pictures, I really don't think aniso is worth my gpu's effort at all. Back to AA. Anyway, thanks for pointing out the previous thread about this--I shoulda searched.

Damn Rambus.

Hey no worries, these things are kinda hard to search for (it took me 6 searches and I supposedly knew what I was looking for in here). It'was way back about 2 weeks ago.

I think AF is a great tool and really it doesn't stress ATI hardware too much. Depends on the game really. A game like Q3 etc, has such high frame rates, that AA/AF is the only way to get better image quality, especially if your monitor is maxed out.
However, SOME people don't like the resultant visuals and think it looks worse. But they are usually a minority, but to each their own.

BTW, you like Lacrosse (looked at your profile for system specs [card type I forgot])?

Field, Box or Both?

I played Box when I was younger, and field when I was in private school (Midi and Defense [and one game in goal, OWW!]).

I think it does look better (now that I know what to look for), but it beats the crap out of my Ti4400 (why cant R42X and NV40 just be released already?!). I'll use it when I can, but most of the games I play already thrash my system around, so no sense in adding to the mayhem.

Damn Rambus.

Oddest thing though. I finidhed Halo last night. Then started fooling around with the settings in my 9600Pro control panel. (was playing 1024x768x32 full quality)

I've set the Aniso and AA up all the way. Halo looked so cool. (Like Heretic a couple of milleniums ago, sooooooo realistic)

And it didn't slow the PC down. Pity. I'm not shooting 10 kazillion aliens again because it looks nicer now.

At this rate we'll all be going to hell. At least I'm flying there in bussiness class.
