I think I've been endowed with such a gift but now I feel I am worthless
after the gift is now where to be found.

Okay, I'm not going to play that my answer is better thingy, because the
answer to this philosophical question is highly personal. But I think
experience has more to do with how you conduct/execute a problem rather
than change a person's nature fundamentally. It's a big commitment for
someone to change their intrinsic personality.

I think I've explained my answer before, which I believe I said it's
because of a failure in some certain paradigm event that would prompt
someone a need to reform oneself from ground up, and that's the regret of
such failure that makes people want to make a commitment. And often there
is simply no room to back out of such determination.

But if you think about it, it sort of tells us about our own views of the
world. "Experience changes the nature of a (wo)man" is a very
constructive/optimistic answer to life; whereas "regret..." is rather
negative. It's sort of the same as positive reenforcement (people change
because they accumulate new XP) and negative reenforcement (people change
because they got burned, so they learn).

What about the person who has changed because of having children? Is
that change only superficial instead of foundational because there is no
regret involved?

Just because you have no grets, doesn't mean there aren't such things.

Typo. "now no where to be found." See, I often leave out a negation which
totally changes the meaning of the sentence.

I think our foci are rather different (yet again). Let's say if someone is
a loving person, when he becomes a father, he would become more or less of
a loving father. If the person was irresponsible, but after he become a
father, he became more responsible, that would be a fundamental change.
There is a lot more than just love and nurture going on, but also regret of
the former way (irresponsible), but could because of some new experience
allows him to see the light, of course.

Personally speaking, I've only had regret-induced experience of major
reforms. I noticed something I did in the past that's wrong, then I would
feel there is no way I could let it go on without hurting myself (and
others), then that's when I make the change drastically enough that I could
not see who I would eventually become. That's not something a risk averse
person like me would usually do.

If you can't gret, how can you do it again, i.e regret?

Was "time" one of the choices? If so, that's what I picked. I mean, a man
can sit around and not experience anything yet still grow old and die. Not
counting growing old as experience 😛
