What does requires adjacent pci slot mean?

Hi, I'm looking at a bunch of different cards at the moment. But some of them say requires adjacent pci slot. Does that mean that I need two slots on my mobo, or does it just mean that it's a fatter card and will require extra space above it?

Means it will take up two slots, not from the top but will take up the next slot below as well as the one it occupies.

The dual-slot width card will occupy the PCIe x16 slot and cover over the PCIe x1 slot going by your picture.

Yes the card will slot into the one pcie x 16 slot and cover the next x1 slot.
So it only slots into one slot but covers the next and makes it unusable.

If the pci-e slot x 1is free you are good to go.
