Hi!
We practiced to a show and one on the students accidentally dropped the mic. It was a really big bumm, and since then, the mixer isn't so loud as it should be. If we set the main volume to half, it bearly has any noise, but if set to max it is normal. The music is clear and the other mics are working fine, but the main must be on max to get the same loudness. Again. We used it on half volume before the big drop but now the full is as loud as the half was. What happened to it? Or is it the two speakers?
Can someone help me with this?
Thank You!

What's the model of the console? Move the mic to another channel and test it with the same head amp gain, pad setting, etc as the original input channel. If you hear the low level again, the problem is not the preamp circuit on the original channel. If you have another of the same mic, test the mixer input with that mic (original mic could be damaged). If the result is good, the mic is ok. If it's not the mic or the mixer input, it could be later in the audio signal chain within the mixer or at the amp/speaker(s). How's the fidelity? If there's a buzzing of the sounds coming out of the speakers then you have torn a cone(s). Lower level could mean the loud sound from the mic drop overloaded some part of the signal chain anywhere from the console to the speaker (if self-powered speakers with integrated amp) or amplifier (if passive speakers). Is it also possible someone reactively and unknowingly changed a setting on the console as a result of the incident (surprise element of the mic drop)? Check pad and head amp gain settings. Do you remember where they were before the incident? What about the mic's input channel fader? If that were pulled down, the level at the main fader would be low.

Hi!
We have an ALTO ZMX 122 FX console.

Every dial is in the middle position. The Mics were in the Mic channels from 1 to 4 and the laptop was in the 7/8 channel. The speakers where in the main mix channels. The volume was in half power for every channel. The speakers are Electo-Voice ZLX-12P models. The master volume was in 0 gain and the two mic gains were 0 as well. But the speakers have a strange buzzing sound to them when they are on. Not loud at all but if you stand close (really close) you can hear it.
