What happens when we shrink a partition in disk management

Hello, Please can anyone help me??
I have got 4 partitions in my laptop(Disk management) only two of it is being used at present, out of the other two one shows healthy(EISA configuration 1.46 gb) and the other (Healthy primary partition 7.51 gb)What are these partitions for? can I use them to load another os on it??

Those are probably your laptop restore partitions.

And if that is what they are, they are protected partitions and you cannot install another operating system on them without using a stand alone Partitioning Utility like Partition Magic or similar, and destroying your OP/SYS restore capabilities.
