I am looking to pick up the new Asus ROG SWIFT PG258Q https://rog.asus.com/articles/gaming-monitors/rog-swift-pg258q/

This monitor runs at 240hz at 1920x1080, and I want a consistant 240fps or above to be able to get the full 240hz at all gaming session. Now I will be using a GTX 1080 TI (when that releases shortly)

Short of that I have the following:
i7 6core, 3930K 3.2ghz
16G ddr3 233mhz ram
500G Samsung 850 Evo SSD
1000w Powersupply
H100 cooler
Windows 7 Home (looking to upgrade to windows 10)

Will i be able to do this with no problems?

The short answer is no, not a chance. The long answer is it depends on the game more than the hardware.

The video card may be capable of doing it but when you start getting into that kind of frame rate, processor, RAM speed, etc are more likely to come into play. Even the best processor won't be able to tell the GPU what to draw fast enough to hit 240FPS constantly and more cores doesn't help much because most games don't really use them yet. Doubling your GPU power does not get you double framerates at the high end. There are serious diminishing returns. Turning down settings will not help much if the CPU is holding you back. Generally Low Settings versus Ultra only changes CPU load by 10% or less.

Your best bet is probably going to be the Kaby Lake i7-7700K 4 core clocked as high as it can go if you want to get close along with that 1080Ti.

The other thing is many games simply stop working properly at high frame rates; Bethesda games Physics goes nuts above 120FPS, even modern AAA is often capped at 120 or 200 FPS.

Now if you play LOL and CS-GO you shouldn't have issues but AAA leading edge games, you'll be lucky to get a constant 120 even on low; there is always something that makes frame rates drop sometimes. You can probably average 160+ but constant, not a chance even on low settings.

I also wonder about coil whine/buzz at 240FPS.......

What is coil whine/buzz ?? Also you see and hear guys on csgo and other games running 300fps? how is that possible then? I will pick up the 7700 whenever that comes out.. maybe just get one part at a time until then. I really love my 6 core 3930k though :).

Thanks for reply guys.

Coil whine is when a vibration happens on the card that makes a whiny noise.

Those CSGO guys who hit 300 FPS are just talking about CSGO, and no other game. They also might not maintain 300 FPS for the most part, but they do maintain over 200 in that game. CSGO is an exception, not the rule. Most games will not give the frame rates of CSGO. CSGO is a very old game, that was built to be able to have exceedingly high FPS. Don't expect that in any other game you play.
