One PCIE slot, but the card will occupy a second PCI slot at your expansion slots and pump the exhaust out the back of the case.

So your saying a total of 3 slots? 1 pci-e , 2 pci?

The card and cooler together occupy two slots.
Two slots total.

one PCIE where it connects to, and one whatever is beneath it because the cooler is so big

The hot air is expelled out the back. Works great to keep the hot air out of the center of the case. Big works in this case.
