Ok i have a question. I have a 8.4 gig harddrive from Maxtor. I brought it about a year ago. It is an EIDE, but i was wondering if it was to be plug into the ata/66 or the ata/100 on the A7v motherboard. Or do i need to buy a new HD? And what exactly is Ata and udma? what is the differace between them?

UDMA-66 and UDMA-100 are both backwards compatible, so whatever type of (U)DMA your Maxtor is (ATA16 or UDMA33), it'll work fine with these new controllers. However, to benefit from the newer UDMA controller, you'll need a new HDD using UDMA 66 or UDMA 100.

Also, your wasting your time if you don't have an ATA66 or ATA100 cable. The old ass IDE cables won't transmit that data fast enough for the controller to use it. Some benchmarks have shown that old DMA33 drives can be faster on ATA100 controllers (with ATA100 cables of course). But if you really want speed, opt for a 7200 RPM drive.
