Question What is the best cooling configuration for a Fractal Design Torrent case with 7 140mm fans?

I purchased a case and in the user guide, it shows that I should have the 3 140 fans on the bottom sucking air into the case and the front 3 140 fans with the radiator blowing air out of the case, but which way should I put the single 140 fan in back? Sucking into the case or blowing out of the case?

I can't recall ever hearing of a back fan being anything but exhaust....OUT. But you could probably concoct a situation where intake was preferred.

Regardless, you need to experiment a bit with whatever fan setup you try...all depending on your opinions about noise levels versus temperatures. It's a continuum from one to the other. You are somewhere on it, but we don't know where. Maybe you have fans for reasons other than cooling. Maybe you get frantic at 50 degree temps. Maybe you have bad ears and are indifferent to noise. Etc.

I suspect you have in the manual mistaken the arrows showing how to remove the front fans to instead show the direction of the airflow.

Most fans have an arrow on the frame showing the direction of the airflow. Also the bars holding the hub with the fan motor are on the back side, where the air comes out. Generally if you know how a fan works, you can see from the profile of the fan blades which direction the air flows.

I know someone who has a torrent case, and I'm pretty sure it only has 5 fans? 2 with lights on the front and 3 underneath, a product link or pictures would help (plus I'm interested)

the back fan is almost always an exhaust, because it would be right behind the cooler to snatch away hot air preventing it from being recirculated, in most cases it probably isn't needed dependent on PC specs of course, you could always build your PC and try it both ways round to see which gives better thermals, if you do report back with findings :)
