Question What is the most powerful Intel CPU compatible with the MSI Z170A GAMING M5 motherboard?

Hi,

I have a Z170A GAMING M5 motheboard with a i5 6600K processor. I want to upgrade the CPU but I am unable to figure out if the most popular latest CPUs (i9s) are compatible with this motherboard.

With a BIOS update, it could support up to a 7700k. That is the most powerful CPU compatible with any 6th or 7th gen Z170 or Z270 motherboard. i9 for any generation prior to 9th gen, is an HEDT only series. HEDT meaning High end desktop. You can Google that if you wish to know more about HEDT platforms.
