Can't beleive I've only just got round to reading this thread. Brilliant stuff. And good luck Lord Geek, A Quad Core would be lovely.

BEG INTEL FOR A PENRYN!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmm... ya but it'd probably be an ES.... :?

There's usually nothing wrong with an ES unless it's been abused previously. They usually are fully unlocked and this can be beneficial for overclocking or experimenting with. Sometimes very early ESes may not OC very well, but I don't think that ones that are not on production-level silicon get shipped out as ESes.

Why LordGeek busted the retailer for shipping him an ES is that:

1. The chip was not supposed to have been sold. Intel prohibits selling off ESes in most cases.

2. It was certainly used. Everybody wants to see how well as ES overclocks, so most ESes have the tar beat out of them. Buying one might result in a flaky chip for general use.

So if Intel ships him an ES, it will be free-and-clear as Intel can do whatever they like with their goods. It will also be a new chip and not abused by some amateur review site. I'd not mind an ES for a CPU as the possibility of getting a flawed and not-stable one is not that good and the advantages of being able to play with the multiplier and such would outweight that. Besides, if Intel ships you a dead chip, ask for a new one. I think that they'd do that as they seem to be reputable enough. Now AMD on the other hand...

...never really ships any ESes out, so this would not be an issue. 😀

That was right on the button .. the first ES chip received was derfinately used .. and the spreader showed evidence of this.

The second chip received .. the same .. totally used .. in fact this processor spreader looked worse than the first one I got.

I have no problem in regards to accepting a ES chip .. but as stated, if it can directly from Intel .. knowing that this processor had not been used, abused, beaten .. I would accept it from them.

What pissed me off the most is that I ordered a OEM Core 2 Extreme X6800 .. and paid good money for it .. I did not order a chip that looks like its been through the washer and back .. with no warranty/guaranty .. especially since Intel would never support the ES processor if something happened to it.

There are alot of reasons I can go over in regards to this whole situation.. now I was told by Intel .. that if I was able to obtain either the same or another processor from the Retailer that is ES .. ship it to Intel and I would be receiving a replacement for what I shipped them.

All I'm waiting on right now is a call back from Intel for a address as to where to send this ES chip I received .. it will be up to Intel as to what they send me as a replacement .. even if they sent me a ES chip that was new, unused .. I would accept it gladly.

Understand ...

Lordgeek,

If possible, could you post some pics of the new ES?
If you wouldn't mind I'd like to see them too.

I agree with you Lordgeek. Those kids playing around in here should go elsewhere, I'd really like to see how this all plays out.

Jeese man,

Third or forth post on not talking to that idiot in here, and since the first post, no one has been saying anything..... drop it.... I already did. I already posted saying I would not compose any more posts about that..... cool?!

wes

The pictures in the beginning of the post are exactly the same as to the new chip .. the only difference with this one is the serial number. As stated in one of my posts ..

First chip I had : QMYP ES L610A773 A0821
This chip received : QMYP ES L610A773 A0257

So the chip is identical except the serial of A0257.

I'll post pics up here of what Intel ships me :)

I must say, I'm completely intrigued by this...I hope you get your x6800 (or better), but I'm pretty sure Intel's going to be extremely pleased with you. I'm sure they don't exactly want their ES's floating around all over the place...

Well .. Intel contacted me this morning .. received shipping information, sent them the ES CPU via FedEx Priority.

So now its time to wait .. see what Intel ships me.

I did however drop a little note in the package hinting a QX6700 .. LOL

Even if it is an ES it would be the fastest in the world 😉

Hahahaha nice!, how long does Fedex Priority takes? 3 days? hope is there soon!

BTW, I really want to know what you will get for this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just finished reading all 12 pages of useless posts. (well mostly)
In my opinion you went in a lot of fuss to track down an e-tailer with absolutely cheaper 6800 cpu you could find. Well, I hope all the fuss for saving some $$ was worth the trouble and manhours spend on this little endeavor of yours. I personally wouldn't be bothered. I prefer to pay the normal price and get exactly what I order. Something brand new that can be put in use the moment it arrives and start doing what I want it to.

happy waiting!

Lower yer nose mate, I can see the snuff crusts....

If you really wanted to contribute something in a positive light, that wasn't the way to go about.

His endeavour actually did pay off, not just for him. Intel has been alerted about their ES chip being sold and thus can track down who did the evil deed and most likely will end their contract. the poster will get what he wanted, if not something nicer.

evil deed? lol just because they got their hands on some engineering samples they are evil, perhaps the devil himself! beware! hahaha.

Well if he didn't had anything to do for 2 weeks to kill time, sure.

Well, I can honestly say that this is the first time that I've read through an entire 12-page topic. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time, no-less.

Worst-case scenario, he could've reported the eTailer to his CC company as fraud and had the charges removed (for receiving a product other than what was advertised). In fact, I'm SURE he still can.

The credit card companies don't **** around. Not only will they promptly refund your money, but they usually charge the offending retailer a hefty fine, and may even revoke their ability to accept credit cards.

Either way, I'd report the company to your credit card company. Just tell them the situation, that they sold you something that you couldn't use, you reported them, and you had to send the original part back to the manufacturer so that they could properly investigate. I'm sure they'll refund you and stick it to the e-tailer at the same time. You don't have to tell them that Intel compensated you. It shouldn't matter anyway...

There are some benefits to using credit cards, after all...

You'll get a FREE processor STRAIGHT from Intel. That's a pretty straight deal...

Well, patience is good but i can't wait to see Intel's final move in this game. I hope they'll be generous with you. A good response will add credits to their name also!
