I am looking to upgrade my motherboard to suit a better CPU and upgrade Ram to DDR3. i have having trouble finding anything. i know dells are hard to change motherboards over with the connectors. im wondering if its worth it. my specs on this computer are model Inspiron 518 /Cpu Intel Core 2 duo 2.66 Ghz / Graphics card NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 Ti/ Operating system windows 8 64Bit / Ram 8GB of DDR2 / power supply 550w Thanks for your help.

Solution
You need new case, MB, CPU, and DDR3 (2x4GB) RAM, and the PSU maybe ok. It depends on how old it is, and what brand too.

so if i switch to a atx case all i need is case, MB, Cpu, and power supply correct. i can just transfer the rest of my parts.

ok. i said the power supply only because of the way it sits in the case. It works well. ill look into it more after i order case and motherboard, cpu, Ill post on here what i went with. just got to make sure i get one with a PCI slot for my graphics card. Thank you very much for your insight and help.

thank you very much Cin19 for all your help. i told you what i went with and here it is. A gigabyte intel Z77 ship set, DDR 3 ($150)/ Intel Core i5 3rd Gen 3470 quad-core 3.2ghz ($230) /Rip Jaw DDR3 1600 mhz 2x4 gb (60.00)
thanks

also i got a new case. was the same for this computer but new. guess i could have put a new atx board in it cause its not a dell case. but this one is not beat up. its a Raidmax Sagittarius black. if you want email me at joecorry@yahoo.com and ill send you a pic of the finished project. im about to put it together tonight. and if you have any more advice i would love to hear it
