What needs to run on start-up????

It seems that there is alot of stuff running in the back ground, what need to be there and what is just taking up space and using mem????

run msconfig and uncheck anything (on the startup tab) you don't want running. When windows is installed, I think it's empty. So windows doesn't need any of them to run.

I usually go through the process and google the ones I don't recognize. You should be able to find every one of them.

You can disable a boatload of unnecessary services. I have
mine down to 14 services running@ desktop idle. I have the printer on my
wifes PC so i don't have the spooler running, or any of the other "printer
bloat". Black Viper's website had all the services, and which were needed
or not. His site has been down for a few months, but majorgeeks.com has
posted his guide for XP Pro. Check it out.
