i am building a budget gaming pc with these components but i dont know what psu would work.

-amd athlon 2 dual or tri core cpu with stock cooler
-2x xfx radeon hd 6850 xxx or 6870 xxx
-8 gb mushkin silverline 1333mh ddr3 ram
-gigabyte ga990fxa ud3 990fx
-500gb 7,200rpm hdd
-300mbs gigabit lan wireless pci-e card
-standard 24x dvd drive
-2 or 3 case fans

i won't be putting both gpus in at the same time but i will put in a second at a later date.
i would prefer the psu to have a single 12v rail and i like the look of the xfx 650w xxx edition modular psu but it is a little expensive and i dont know if it would be enough. i could also do with a little more power if i add anything in the future.

thanks in advance.

AMD recommends a 600w psu with 4 6 pin pci-e connectors for dual cards:

Do not go cheap on a psu; get a quality unit.
My short list of quality psu's would include Seasonic, Antec, PC P&C, Corsair, and Antec.

For what it is worth, I doubt that an athlon 2 or 3 core cpu can effectively drive such a crossfire graphics configuration.
An Intel 2100 would be better, read this article:
