What service in win xp is needed to see available wireless networks?

I have 2 computers(Windows XP). 1 is hardwired to a QWEST PK5000Z modem. The second machine has functioned over a wireless connection. I can no longer see the available wireless connections available from the second machine. Can you help, as I don't know what to look for as the application that would provide available wireless connection information on the second computer from the "control panel" - "Network Connections".

This info disappeared after running cleans and defrag on the second machine. Can you help?

is the second computer a laptop? if so is the wireless enabled? look for a switch
