Hi all,
I was hoping that some smart person would be able to help me out a little.
I am about to setup a RAID (0) and I’m not sure how to go about it as I have read that you shouldn't put a cd rom and a hard drive on the same cable as it will slow it down etc.

Can you help me work out how to setup My hard drives and cd rom \ burners, need to make a RAID of the 2 IBM drives bellow and have all devices working at there optimum
what I have is:

Abit SA6R motherboard
2X 30GB 7200rpm ata100 IBM hard drives (for the RAID)
1X 8GB System hard drive ATA33
1X CD Burner 10x4x32x
1X cd rom 50x

What I need to know is can the two 30GB IBM's be on the same cable in a RAID?
What combination of drives and where to put them on the cable eg ide 1 and master slave stuff.
The motherboard has 4 connections two for raid.
performance must be the highest possible.

Thanks for any help :)

Your 30GB drives must have their own cable to the RAID IDE connectors on the MB. RTM.

The other three devices can be arranged however you like on the regular IDE connectors. Just make sure the drive that is by itself on a controller is set to single or master. On the other two devices, one should be set master, and the other to slave. Cable Select is evil, set the jumpers for Master/Slave.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.
