Question What should i check 1st guys? Computer started shutting down the other day playing Stalker 2 and the red light comes on as it shuts down.

System is 5 yrs old. i have a i9-9900k
Asus Z390-H gaming MB
Nvidia geforce RTX 4070ti
Corsair vengence 32 gigs ram
Thermaltake tough power GF1- 850 watt power supply
Win 11

Hard drives
ST2000DM008-2FR102 (SSD)
Samsung SSD 970 PRO 512GB (SSD)
Samsung SSD 980 PRO with Heatsink 2TB (SSD)

System is not over clocked. I tested memory and all good, no errors. What should i test tomorrow when i dig into it. Browsing the internet is fine just running Stalker 2 at the moment when it shuts down and restarts. Thank you guys!

How old is that Thermaltake PSU?

Any error codes, warnings, or even informational events in Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer?

Especially any that are being logged just before or at the time of the shutdowns?

I created an event logs.evtx but can't see to upload anywhere. I could send to you if that helps

Just hold on ther event logs for now.

Look in Reliability Monitor for other errors etc.. Use "Day View".

Take a screenshot of the last couple of weeks - pick a date with multiple errors.

Overall though, a 5 year old PSU is likely nearing or at its' designed in EOL (End of Life). Very much suspect.

One immediate thing you can do:

Powerdown, unplug, open the case.

Clean out dust and debris.

Ensure, by sight and feel, that all connectors, cards, RAM, jumpers, and case connections are fully and firmly in place.

Use a bright flashlight to look for signs of damage: bare conductor showing, melted insulation, pinched or kinked wires, corrosion, blackened or browned areas, moisture, cracks, missing or loose screws, dead bugs.

Do you have access to another PSU that could be swapped in for testing? (Be sure to use only the cables that come with the test PSU.

Also: is all important data backed up at least 2 x to locations away from the computer in question? Be sure to verify that the backups are recoverable and readable.

i would have to look for a PS in attic in boxes, i do have a power supply tester i bought awhile back
