I have my new CPU cooler, and i am about to switch my coolers, and i need to know what i can use to clean my cooler, do i really need to get alcohol to clean off my cpu, or can i just wipe the thermal paste of, if i cannot just wipe the paste off, then what would be a good replacement for the rubbing alcohol?

Solution

Should work. Try it; won't hurt anything.
Thermal paste is a sort of viscous substance that is best cleaned off with Isopropyl Alcohol. You can try and wipe it off with tissue or kitchen towel but you're going to eb left with a residue. Much similar to how a ketchup stain can be wiped off with a finger(when yet liquid) but you end up with the stain on the fabric. The residue will also affect your thermals, if not by a little, but it's good to remove any factors to inhibit your cooling performance.

A quick trip to the drug store should yield a small bottle of rubbing alcohol. You may want to read through this.

I have alcohol wipes, do you think that those would work, i have a lot of them also.
