Im planning to buy myself a new comp in the end of August and need help speccing it, havent read much about components the last two years so pretty clueless whats hot and whats not.

Anyway I just need the box:
Chassi (got a Chieftec Dragon Big Tower on my current comp which I like, but they seem to be a little expensive nowdays)
Power Supply
MotherBoard (Got a Epox 8KHA+ on my current and like it, but seems like Epox isnt the way to go anymore)
CPU (Want AMD)
CPU Fan
Grahics Card (Is a GF 6800 worth the 130$ more then a Radeon 9800? think the GT version is to expensive..)
RAM (Aiming for 1 Gig)
HD (Thinking about 160Gigs Seagate Barracuda SATA)
Soundcard (would be nice if this was built into the MB, break way to many SB cards each year =()
Network (Good if this is included in the Mobo too)
naybe som Fans?

Im gonna use it plainly for gaming (1600*1200) and maybe a little webbrowsing, nuffin else (gonna use my old comp as server and multimedia station etc) Planning to spend about 1000$ on it (can go higher if its worth it). I dont care how uglee it is, and neither do I care how much noise it makes (as long as I cant hear it through my headphones its good =P) Im living in Sweden so my prices may alter some from yours, and some products may be a little harder to find.

Any help is very welcome =)

also, heres my current specs from what I remember:
Chieftec Dragon Full Tower White (old version)
EPoX 8KHA+
1333Mhz AMD Thunderbird
512 MB RAM
ASUS Geforce TI 4200 128 MB
Seagate Barracuda 80GB
Seagate Barracuda 60GB
Uknown 10/100MB Network Card
Soundblaster Audigy 2
Samtron 17"
Logitech MX500
Logitech Cordless Desktop Optical
52X Cd Reader
some dvd Burner
Some Koss headphones I think
Floppy..

There's plenty of posts like yours. Maybe you're not getting many replies as some are unaware of prices in sweden. I'm waiting for socket 939 to come down some more in price before I build, but socket 754 will work fine. Select your memory with care, whatever board you choose. Msi makes a good board called the neo platinum with nforce3 chipset. I haven't reviewed the new video cards or hardrives, so maybe someone else will help you.

Mwave.com has some Aopen HX-O8 towers left for $45.00 US. What a steal. they all come with FSP power supplies!

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

Think prices are about the same.. maybe a little higher here but not much.. but posting links about cheap stuff at American is pretty useless =P

Is it worth paying the extra money and get a 3ghz 64bits instead of a XP3000+ ?
Have no idea what kind of memorys to buy at all? so need some help there

Athlon 64 will have you ready for 64 bit operating systems (whenever microsoft can release it) and is a great gaming cpu. Prices dropped recently to less than $200 for the 3000 retail boxed. The msi k8n neo fis2r is a great board. There's a review at pcstats. They used corsair twinx3200 LL (2 sticks of 256 meg) in their testing.
