Fermi 3? Michigan is already a full generation ahead of the world computer industry since I'm already using Fermi 2.

I just love the justifications of any reason to buy any parts over others, as the only thing certain is that they will all be paper weights eventually.

As I explained to my GF, it's a hobby. Don't try to make sense of it, because it doesn't make sense. If someone wants to buy a 480, it will generally be b/c they want the single fastest GPU in the world, not because they care about saving $50 or $100. There are cheaper hobbies out there, and a lot more expensive hobbies (Boating, flying, Racing)

So there is no real reason to insult anyone because of their choices of hardware, because to anyone that isn't a geek, we all look like a bunch of idiots for spending more on GPUs that most the average user spends on their entire PC now.

You had no idea how much i laughed when i read that.

I just had a question...?...Since these cards are new and more advanced then older generations like the 200's, 9's, 8's...etc. Shouldn't they be smaller NM. My 8800 is like 90nm right now and it runs very hot. With 60% fan speed it idles at around 45C and can get to 70-75C easily when on load. And this in my CM HAF 932.

If these new cards are like 40nm or 45nm, something like that, wouldn't they run cooler, or the sheer power of them overcomes this to produce more heat? Just wondering guys.

In theory, yes. if you took your 8800 and shrunk down the architecture, it would run cooler, but with the frequency higher, and you're packing a LOT more into the size (the actual chip is HUGE).

+1

Fermi is very similar to a big block chevy motor. Big, loud, hot and fast ! Fermi is a lot cheaper.
A little of this drama over the power usage under load , :) Humor here, running up to a fellow after racing and asking, but how
many MPG's does it get , huh ?

that might be but a graphics card is like an endurance race car not a 1/4 mile dragster, and currently the diesels are the best endurance race cars

elaborate please

so AMD is diesel powered and NV is Nitro powered? hehe

I dont mind the power requirements for the 470, my PSU has more than enough juice, AFAIK it pulls about 7% more than my GTX 260 so IDK what all the fuss is about..

well i say the one thing that sucks about my 4870's is that i use F@H, they just don't get the greatest speed on those (because the GPU2 client doesn't utilize them well)

are you also going to upgrade anytime soon??

Probably because you never seem to post anything aside from baits and trolls.

Not necessarily. I don't care for hot running GPUs, but they can last. My first 4850 ran in the 80-110C range before I replaced the cooler (about 9-10 months in) and it is still going strong now.

this is a gaming and development machine first, F@H second, and they do just fine for gaming (possibly for a while as well), so i think i will be skipping this generation completely

You exactly like your post?
