What would be the best cooler for i5 3570k on 4.5GHz around 60-80c?

Solution

A 2500K would EASILY get to 5GHz with the NH-D14. Faster at 5.0 than the 3570K at 4.5? Yeah, but not by a lot.

So can I reach 5.0GHz on NH-D14 around 70-80c, cause I don't want to go above 80c

Can I overclock 2500k to 5.0 with that thing, and would it be faster than the Ivy 4.5GHz one?

If its that easy, how far more can I go with keeping the temperatures below 80c on NH-D14?

Well, every chip is different, so you would just have to try it and see, but a good chip can probably get to 5.2 or a little more on air. VCore will probably be your limiting factor.

I've heard that Silver arrow is just slightly better than NH-D14 and by the way I will use Asrock Z77 Extreme4 and XFX Core Edition PRO850W as my power supply and does 2550k run cooler than the 2500k because of the integrated graphics? Man my head is about to explode :D

LOL at the last comment. Anyway, nah, the 2550K wouldn't run any cooler, since you won't be using the iGPU on the 2500K anyway (uses no power and thus, creates no heat, when not enabled). I imagine you won't be using it anyway, since you even put the 2550K into consideration.

The Silver Arrow IS just slightly better, but not enough to make or break an OC. That choice is up to you.

haha  anyways. How far can I overclock 2500k with silver Arrow under 80c under load of course?

I honestly don't know, but my best guess is that it would be about the same as with the NH-D14. Like I said above, when going over 5Ghz, Vcore will limit you more than anything. Can't go over 1.52V (well, you can, but you'll get to experience what a fried CPU is pretty quickly, if you do  )

yeah if youre going ivy bridge this is the best idea so far.

to whoever recommended the 212+ should do some more research before recommending that cooler for an ivy bridge cpu. that cooler could barely keep a 2500k below 60-65*c t 4.5 let alone keeping a 3570 below 80*c at 4.5

Honestly, if you're dead set on a high OC (which I have mixed feelings about because even though I OC myself, almost no one NEEDS to OC with a 2500K/3570K and certainly not to 5Ghz+ I OC because I can, not because I need to...), you may be interested in this http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

It's the Performance Tuning Protection Plan from Intel that provides what is basically OC insurance and only costs $20 for either the 2500K and 3570K. It provides for a one-time, no questions asked replacement if you fry your chip from OC'ing.

I personally have invested in it myself and I hope I never need it, but it's nice to have the assurance that I'm covered where the normal warranty won't. $20 for peace of mind is a small price to pay, IMO.

I know Im thinking about like 2 years from now how much fraps will i gain by overclocking it to 5.0GHz from 3.3
