I got the game, loaded it, began the practice and lost interest. So, I
really don't know how it runs on my system.

Horsefeathers! I'm running a 6600GT in a Shuttle case with a 250W PSU,
no problems. (3 Ghz P4, 1 Gb RAM, 7200 RPM drive, on-board audio; I
have no idea what the total power draw of all that is. :^)

I've got the Gigabyte model, which is detailed here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125168

(Not affiliated with NewEgg, but a very happy customer.)

Runs everything I've thrown at it with no complaints.

Agreed. I've only seen 300 Watt recommendations for both the 6600GT and the
vanilla 6800. Might be a different case for the 6800GT and Ultra models, but
with any one of four these cards I wouldn't go any lower than 400 Watts,
especially when you consider all the power other components pull from the
PSU.

Something ancient LOL

AMD Athlon XP2000+
64mb Nvidia Geoforce 4 with AGP 8x
512 mb Ram
20 gig HDD am waiting to get a newer one
but can't quite afford it yet

DVD Rom drive
Pioneer DVR 109 burner
Liteon LTR 32123s CD RW burner

As I said all ancient but for me it works

Man, I *really* wish I had some experience with other A64 CPU's to compare
this one to. There is not a lot out there yet to really take advantage of
the dual core that I can see. Or even the 64 bit architecture for that
matter. Don't even think about Windows x64, it's not ready for prime time.
It's like a strippie new car, needs more things. Like peripheral drivers.
But Far Cry 64 is really GOOD. But just to run Far Cry in x64 is not worth
my giving up one of my XP Pro original disks/licenses. The 'trial' version
will likely expire as soon as it's activated as that trial period is
officially finished. I got in a few days too late it seems anyway.
Comparing this x2 4800+ to the P4 3.0E; The x2 is a very solid jump up
from that P4. Everything works faster. Far Cry 32 bit in regular XP Pro
is easily 30% faster than my P4 with the same vid card.
If you have a way to compare the FX57 to the X2 4800 then DO it before you
decide. FX57 is supposed to be THE fastest gaming CPU on the planet right
now. Nothing out there is really optimized for dual core or even 64 bit,
yet. It might be a year or more before we start seeing much.
What does the FX57 cost against the near $1000 for the X2 4800+? I wish
Anandtech and Toms Hardware Guide had some direct comparisons!
So would I recommend the x2? I can't do that, either way. for me, it's an
experiment and i've jumped into uncharted water with it and knew that ahead
of time :)

I must say, my ti4600 has only given totaly solid performance for the last two
years indeed. I love all the WWII games on the quake III engine, except I disliked
the BF1942 demo, too much of a choppy cartoon. Still, the only games I have
had full tilt settings with are QI - II... I am very surprised at how well I've been
able to play D-3 with it, when I clicked the auto detect in the game it set it at
640x480, low settings. but i set the game this way:

800x600,
32bpp,
spectral on
2x fsaa

....with that great playing and never a hitch for too much heat. Sometimes a lock-up
early on but that was fixed by setting the .cfg right ("I think"). The card gives a static
57-61 fps with those settings, standing still. I was happy! But I feel it's time for me
to be able to go with full tilt settings and play fast as well, without a choppy and
"vibratory" image. I just don't know what card to get for $300... ?

Intel 2.4 G P4 and Chaintech Geforce 3 Ti200. 1.25 GB RAM helps a lot,

I assume you don't play the likes of doom 3 / HL 2 / Far Cry? I can't
picture the ti200 running those.

For me, if I'm reduced to running games at 800X600, it means my system
is outdated. My personal minimum specs is 1024X768 max detail at
comfortable frame rates.

Athlon XP 3200+ and GeForce 6800GT Only 512 on SDRAM. I did have 768, but
since the speeds nor the size matched, I pulled the 256 stick for now. I
can tell the difference with 256 less memory. Windows lags when I've got a

Try EQ2 on max detail if you need something to work toward. I don't think
there are any consumer grade PC's out today that will run that acceptibly.
