Well, while keeping fingers crossed for TLoU on PC, I've been slaving away to get 3 more GRID 2019 events done. This time, each of these events had not one, but two highlights for me.

The first event is the Spy GT Supercup, where I used the Aston Martin Vantage GTE. The engine of this car sounds a bit mean and raspy, almost angry, but it sounds so cool when when revving down while decelerating. The races are at Barcelona Fountain Loop, Okutama GP Sprint Circuit B, Havana La Havana Vieja Sprint , and Shanhai The Bund Sprint. It was a treat for me to get my revenge and win the Barcelona Fountain Loop, after getting a miserable 10th in the truck class. So that was one highlight in this event. However I had yet another strange visual bug in the multiview replay. Even though I had no contact in the hotlap or race, in the replay my car showed as severely scratched with a huge buckle in the middle of the hood that made it look like it had been in a hard head on crash, despite zero visual damage to the front end, really weird. I swear this track tries to get me one way or the other. The other highlight was the absolutely gorgeous Shanghai The Bund Sprint at night, and it must have been Chinese New Year because the sky was lit up like an orgasm of fireworks. It's also a fairly long race and a challenging but fun track to drive.

The second event is the FA Asian Tour Part 2, which I again raced in the Aston Martin Vantage GTE, but this time with a different livery. I hope the paint job doesn't look too garish, but I felt something more colorful was appropriate for that venue. This event has just two A to B races, a downhill sprint at Mizu Mountain, and an uphill sprint at Tenshi Way, both at Okutama. The first I knew was going to be a blast right away, as the car's handling and bright clear weather made the track easy to handle. I managed to push myself hard in the race and wound up under 3:40. Little did I know the second track was going to be a real pain. That one took a couple days to finally beat, and I could only get a 4th place starting position. The problem was it was in the fog, which made the track surface far harder to handle. It also finishes on a pretty steep uphill grade with lots of switchbacks, and if you lose momentum, the AI can easily overtake you. This one was so hard I settled again like in the first truck race for whatever the track would give me as far as crossing lines, but I really only crossed a total of 3 times between the hotlap and the race. Needless to say this one was a relief to beat. So the highlights here were the sub 3:40 race time on the first round, and the sheer joy of driving that track, and the relief of beating the uphill sprint, with very light contact.

The third event is the 1960s Face Off Part 2 in the Ford GT40, at the Indianapolis Sport Circuit. Like the 1960s Face Off Part 1, it's of course pitted against 60s era Ferraris to commemorate Ford finally beating Ferrari at Le Mans. This event was by far the shortest of the 3, but it ended up taking more time than either of the others, maybe even combined. The combination of the GT40 being a bit harder to handle than the 330 P4 Ferrari in Part 1 of the 1960s Face Off, and the track being far harder to negotiate with a lot of tricky turns, made for a lot of frustration and some cussing fits. I was tempted to and actually tried it with full (lvl 5) vs the default lvl 3 assists for hard mode, and even the full (vs just corners) race line. The race line alone taught me so much though, and by then I started getting the feel of it into muscle memory, so tried it bare bones on default Hard. Once I found I was able to fairly consistently get a 5th place hotlap time, and get into first from there pretty quickly in the race, I knew it was within the realm of possibility to get in a win. Then I saw how erratically and strangely the AI drove once you passed them. There's a very tricky left/right jog just before the back straight, where the AI will often go off on the grass like Lawnmower Man, as if they suddenly acquired a gift to drive on that surface just as fast and precise. Suffice it to say, this one took many many tries. It had me up late, and throwing fits. I even left the game running minimized a few times through lunch, dinner, etc, after securing 5th place hotlaps, because the game not saving your hotlap time if you quit, and the game having crashed on me numerous times when restarting the race after 15 min to an hour or more of attempts, forced yet anther hotlap attempt. Today I celebrated the victory by thoroughly cleaning my PC. Needless to say, this one was one of the hardest I've faced yet, so despite all the agony I went through, it was such a relief to finally beat it, it felt like a true highlight.

don't you have a YouTube channel people could subscribe to if they wanted to watch all of your videos and read your walkthroughs?
no offense intended, but this thread seems to be more just about what game(s) you're playing and why you like it or not.
No one but you, including admins, has complained about it, so yeah, I do take offense to it. In fact some here whom play race games and watch them, like Gman, have even made positive responses. Is it really an annoyance to you? Why not just ignore them rather than implying I'm being abusive with privilege's? In fact if you're THAT annoyed by it, just put me on Ignore status, and you won't see any of it, so called "problem" solved. I mean you are known to get pretty long winded with your posts too, I could just as well say you're turning the thread into a chronicle of your gaming by your analogy, but I choose not to be offensive. Talking about and showing our gaming experiences is largely what this thread is about, not a popularity contest like you make it sound. I see lots of content being talked about here I take no interest in, as I'm sure we all do. Most don't get rude about it though.

being offensive would be actually complaining.
all i've stated is that people could follow them elsewhere if they wanted, that there's no need for them here.
no one stated you were abusing anything. if it somehow has lead to a "butt-hurt" feeling, i apologize.

and when have i gone on with anything outside of responding to other's posts or actually explaining why i may like or dislike a game?
but, this thread isn't the place for stupid disagreements either. if you want to continue something about this for some reason, just take it to PM and we'll spare the other members this crap.

Looks like we have another Aliens game coming this summer, called Aliens Fireteam. This will be a 3 player online only coop, similar to the 4 player coop games Valve popularized with L4D. It's made by Cold Iron Studios with 20th Century Games publishing, a Disney company.

It looks intriguing, and graphics are excellent, but I always play solo, and although they claim you can play in solo mode with two bots, they say of course you want to play with friends. That likely means solo play will suck like it does with ALL such games. Like the L4D formula, there are boss type Aliens that can burst, spit acid, stalk, pounce, and some big, tough slower ones, among others. They say there are 20 Alien types in all, so it goes well beyond the canon of the films.

There's a whopping 7 difficulty modes, and the campaign is split into 4 missions for each character, or 12 total. There's a fairly elaborate upgrade system, and challenge card system to add replay value. They don't say how long each mission takes, but IGN has a 25 minute video showing two of the CIS devs playing with Ryan from IGN, and it looks like they did the whole mission (or most of it) in 25 minutes. That could mean in reality it's less than a 6 hr campaign total, it's what I'm guessing.

My idea to keep it from sucking in solo play, is to at least offer a special mode you can work up to via gaining XP where the bots you play with are Working Joes, which are much tougher than humans and would likely need reviving far less often. In the video below you can see two of them at the 19:52 mark. They say they are planning DLC as well, and I've read there are no microtransactions, but I didn't actually hear the devs say that in the video. Here's hoping for a Working Joe allies solo mode DLC.

Surprised no one commented on the new Aliens game, I would have thought there'd be some fans of it here. I totally get it though if it's due to a distaste for the coop style.

I've got a new set of GRID 2019 events. This one introduces the TC-1 Specials, and more Pro Trucks, and Super Modifieds. Hotlaps were quite manageable, except for the Pro Truck event, where I only managed an average of about a 4th place start. It wasn't too hard to get through the pack though. The highlight of this set is the one thing these 3 events have in common, a frenetic final round at Barcelona.

Multiplayer doesn't interest me at all.

Me either... the only multiplayer game that has kept my attention for any length of time was WoW... and I'm not currently playing it but may come back for classic BC. I put a lot of time into classic when it launched in 2019 with 4 level 60's.

I own the latest COD but I only play the zombie mode.

Currently on the gaming agenda:

1) Cyberpunk 2077 ... purchased on release date but haven't played it yet... all I've done is update the game via GoG. I figured I'd wait till maybe they have all the kinks ironed out?

2) The Medium

3) Hitman 3

That's it... just picked up 2 and 3 this week... both are visually stunning. Hopefully the gameplay will be solid.

Had great times with L4D at lan parties and AVP & 2, old favourites back in the day, were games we put a lot of hrs into.

Will look into this new Aliens game with great interest. Cheers.

I've never actually watched any of the Alien movies so I'm not yet a fan. I keep pushing it away and think I'll watch some other time. I totally will though because I only very recently watched the original Blade Runner from 1982. I really liked the movie and found the cyberpunk atmosphere to be superb. I gotta watch 2049 as well sometime soon. I'll probably add the Alien movies to my watchlist after it.

This too. I am not fond of multiplayer games...

This seems like the best decision to me. I've encountered so many bugs during my playthroughs that I have dropped it until they patch most bugs out. I had put nearly 60 hours into the game until then, which is a crazy amount of time. I really did like the game, it's just the bugs/glitches that made me feel otherwise.

So you're telling me I'm not crazy then? It's funny how it worked out... got CP 2077 on release date but got tied up at work for a few days. Didn't actually have time to play till about 5 days later and by then the internet was flooded with complaints so I was like "eh.... maybe I'll wait." All I've been doing is patching it so far... I'm really looking forward to playing it because I have a system to give an amazing experience... but if it's buggy I'll just keep playing other stuff.

I played it for 105 bug free hours.

Agreed, the first two Alien movies are great, the rest, not so much. Just a bit of a warning Gman, if you're expecting a lot from all of them. That said, Prometheus is pretty good, which ties into the beginnings of the series, as well as Predator.

I also shelved Cyberpunk 2077, and haven't touched it since. I'm seriously wondering if I should have just avoided it completely until it's better patched, MUCH better in fact.

Hitman Absolution... really great fun every now and then.

Going to Cyberpunk 2077 again...Futuristic tech and great graphics...with a somewhat interesting story... but mostly "tech" yeah. its quite something different having just finished RDR2.

There were lots of games I absolutely loved. I'll try to mention only those that actually left a mark:
  • Lords Of The Realm II: insane micro management fun.
  • DooM 1 & 2: should I say anything more?!
  • Might And Magic VI "The Mandate Of Heaven" and VII "For Blood And Honor": hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of hours hacking and slashing like crazy.
  • Gothic 1, 2 & 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV "Oblivion" & V "Skyrim": how single player RPGs should be made. Huge open maps, tons of quests, solid storylines, 200+ hours of gameplay.
  • Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3: maybe the best series story wise, well written, well developed characters, it felt like being in a movie.
  • Syberia 1 & 2: another of what I call an "interactive movie", extremely well written, it was maybe the only time I got tears in my eyes while playing a video game!
  • Wolfenstein The New Order: I consider this to be one the best modern first person shooters. Perfectly balanced between action and stealth with character development at its best.
What I'm eagerly waiting for are the next episodes of Mass Effect (fingers crossed!) and The Elder Scrolls. Who knows if we can have them in 2022...

Oh man. Alien and Aliens are two of my favorite movies ever.
Prometheus is pretty good, which ties into the beginnings of the series
definitely one of my favorite movie series ever since watching the first one on VHS when i was a toddler.
Prometheus & Alien: Covenant were also better than i had expected considering the way most movie series have been getting ruined over the last couple decades. some of the other movies were fun but not too exciting or thought provoking.
@Gman450, you should definitely set aside some time to watch the series. Ridley Scott made some awesome movies and using H.R. Giger's designs just put these over the top. James Cameron also did a great job on Aliens.

i guess it's just luck of the draw how the game works out for you. i also played through with over a hundred hours and only experienced a few visual glitches and bugs, no more than your average large RPG. all were easily corrected by reloading saves and\or the mods i was already using anyway. i had a great time playing.
patch 1.2 should be coming soon. i would recommend maybe just waiting for that and then getting into it.

Just got a great deal on Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame 3 which came out last year, and picked up Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered as well. I've played ME Supercross 1 and 2, and 3 feels more similar to 2, but they enhanced the handling to feel less floaty, and the bikes can now make ruts so the tracks are dynamic. It's a noticeable change too. You can easily fly off track in any of these games if you hit a jump wrong, but now the bikes feel more weighty, and the ruts are much less predictable. Unfortunately I already noticed a bug ME Supercross 2 had where some parts of a track in multiview replay have a shaky camera. In 2 it was only on the final championship track in Vegas, hopefully it's not widespread in 3.

I've played most Need for Speed games, but not Hot Pursuit, so I had to see what all the raves were about. I've yet to spend any time with Criterion's remaster though.

Other than that I have a few more GRID 2019 events. This time it features GT Group 1, Super Tourer, and Classic GT classes. The highlight this time was the very challenging Historic GT event, but it also had by far the most frustrating race, round 3 at Barcelona's Cathedral Pass. It's done at night and looks beautiful and all, but it's a rather insane choice for Codemasters to have capped off this event with a track with such narrow, walled in roads. It was hard enough to control these very loose handling 60's cars on the first two tracks, which were MUCH wider without walls, but Cathedral Pass in these cars with AI that love to slam into you even if you don't touch them, means a restart pretty much every time once contact is made. I couldn't even manage anything better than last place in hotlaps on Hard, and tried many times to deal with getting through the pack, but it was a no go and meant getting 2nd in the event at best. So I bumped AI down to Medium, and left everything else, including assists, on Hard. The alternative I considered, was bumping assists up to the lvl 5 used on the Med preset, and leaving AI at Hard, which likely would have gotten me a MUCH better start position, but I felt that would almost be like a cheat, since the loose handling of these classics is the main point of the challenge. I scoured YouTube and I've yet to see anyone do, let alone win, this race on Hard though, so being as I merely use a keyboard, I was OK with the settings I chose.

2K Games has listed dev positions for Bioshock 4. This appears to be an open world game in a new setting with a focus on advanced crowd AI, and driven by Unreal Engine 4.

It's being developed by Cloud Chamber Studios, and although this is to be their first game, there are at least three devs from previous Bioshock games on the team.

Among the positions listed are a writer, UE4 expert, and AI specialist. It's also been said Hangar 13, whom made Mafia III and Mafia Definitive Edition will also help out on the project.
