Greatest games ever made?

1) Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1
Plot of good guy is evil vs your evil vampire creator...awesome twists and turns
2) Unreal (Gold, with OldUnreal)
Surreal fantasy mixed with horror and doom-like survival
3) Thief: Deadly Shadows (with SneakyUpgrade and John P. Textures)
Stealth at its best with a steam-punk world. Humorous and glorious. Words fail to dictate the fun of this game.
4) Half Life: Source
I found the sci-fi to be very intriguing, especially at the end. The environments and thin plot formula really sucked me in.
5) Mafia II
No game has ever made characters so life-like and real, even if gameplay could be better. At the end I always yell at the screen.

So I finally got an EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC ACX delivered yesterday. Now I can finally play the higher end games I've picked up recently. Just put in a couple of hours playing Alien: Isolation and it's great so far. Really captures the creepy atmosphere of the movies. Looks amazing at 2560 x 1440 with all the eye candy on too!

Just finished Alan Wake as well and although it wasn't great it shockingly got better about 8 or 9 hours in and was pretty fun for the last few hours of gameplay. I wouldn't pay full price for it but I got that game and Alan Wake's American Nightmare in the Steam sale for I believe $5. For that price I got my moneys worth from the roughly 12 hours it to to beat it and the second game is pretty good as well. The second game is mostly like the fun part of the first game and none of the slow stuff.

980 Ti is a beast, obviously. I also upgraded the case fans in my NZXT Phantom 820 to the NZXT FZ series and they move way more air and are quieter as well. I had three 200mm and a single 140mm fan and now I have four 200mm and a single 140mm and even with the fan controller turned up to a higher level they still make less noise than the old setup. I won't spam pictures in this thread but I posted some here if anyone is interested.

Sweet! I love those games too. You don't need a card that powerful to run them though. Alien Isolation is one of the best optimized games developed recently, and Alan Wake can be run without blur and is not too GPU intense.

Throw something really demanding at it like Unity, Shadow of Mordor, Arkham Knight, etc. Metro and Crysis series too.

Or pick up Cryostasis cheap if you like getting deals on older games and haven't played it yet.

I played Cryostasis back when I had a GTX 460 1GB. I plan on downloading the Metro 2033 and LL Redux versions I also just picked up in the last sale tonight. I doubt the 980 Ti will have any problems with them at 1440p.

I really loved Crysis, Crysis Warhead and even Crysis 2. Crysis 3 was amazing looking but it just wasn't fun. I'll play it again though just to enjoy those visuals at 1440p.

I've got such a backlog now especially after spending about $150 during the summer sale!

I really love This War of Mine. No stunning visuals or game play but I've still managed to put in over 30 hours.

I finished Alan Wake night before last with the old 780. I just got the 980 Ti yesterday. Now I'm all ready for Fallout 4!

Are you aware of how to disable blur in Alan Wake? Makes it look WAY better.

Did you play Cryostasis with PhysX on using your 460? Most people had lots of performance hit with it even on very powerful cards that came out after the game released.

I've heard of Cryostasis. Never played it though. Same goes for Alien: Isolation. I might pick them up one day, but horror games aren't of my taste. If there's a level that's too scary for me, I'll probably just give up playing, and I hate it when I don't finish the ones I started.

Oh and guys, definitely buy the Witcher 3 soon. I've picked it up last week. I've put 26 hours into the game and it's really addicting and fun. The quests all seem pretty unique and most connect one way or another. Even the side quests are really amazing. They're not typical fetch quests.

In most open world games, there are tons of 'undiscovered locations' markings, like in Far Cry 4. It's in Witcher 3 too, but I can't help feel the need to go to all of those locations and get points to level your character up or get some really nice loot.
There are a few bugs here and there, but they're pretty minor. And of the 26 hours I've put in, I only encountered one hard crash.

The enemy types are mind boggling. There are a ton of them. 40+ as I've seen in a review. Each have their own weaknesses to your Witcher sings or certain oils that you can apply on your sword for maximum damage.
My only complaint is the movement in this game. Like the last one, it's just not really well done for the keyboard and mouse. It feels really clunky and I don't have a controller, so I'm stuck with this.

And the game looks gorgeous. I'm able to run at 1366x768, Medium settings and get 35-55 FPS.

I have played Alan Wake before, back when the PC port was released. I kinda liked the motion blur, though I can understand why people would want to turn it off some way. I had two DLCs too, but they were really hard. So I never finished the DLCs. The main story, I did finish. The ammo in the game is really limited.

I was underwhelmed by Cryostasis to be honest. It was one of those games I didn't think was very fun. I only played an hour or so. I got the game free through Green Man gaming or some other similar site.

I didn't turn blur off but I kind of thought it was part of the experience like Gman450 said. I don't know that I liked the game enough to play again, at least not this soon after beating it. Alan Wake's American Nightmare is pretty good though. None of the slower paced story elements the first game had.

I am really enjoying Alien Isolation. Yes it's scary. Yes that's what makes it good!

I'm sure I'll end up with the Witcher 3 at some point but I have other games I want to play first just because I couldn't really get into the first two Witcher games. Dragon Age Inquisition, Far Cry 4, AC Unity, Shadow of Mordor, etc. And I got the Batman game with my 980 Ti but I really am not into comic book stuff and I got the last Batman game with my 780 and only played 4 or 5 hours before it just wasn't fun anymore. I should have sold this one. Oh well.

I still have some higher end games I haven't played at all yet. Thief, Saints Row 2, 3 and 4, Remember Me, Outlast. By the time I get anywhere near caught up all the new games announced at E3 will be out. Unless Fallout 4 is just terrible that's a couple of hundred hours of game play right there. I'll never catch up!

I have 2 red led 140mm version of those same fans in the front of my NZXT S340. You are right they are whisper quiet and push a lot of air. Front of my case is covered plus a nice air filter and my components still get plenty of air. Glad I didn't go with the Corsair fans although I know they are good also.

I really want to see some gameplay with OSD overlay of benchmarks of the 980ti. If you have a Youtube channel and upload vids I would love to see.

I got rid of Shadow of Mordor. Decided to play it some other time or maybe not play it at all. I don't know why, the game just didn't interest me at all. Besides, I needed some disk space to install The Witcher 3.
I'm sure I'll be able to finish the Witcher game before Fallout 4 comes out. But before that, The Phantom Pain is coming out.
Gotta pick up the patched up batman game when rocksteady decides to release the proper version too.

I'm occupied completely for this year.

I'm glad they ended up being such good fans because with the newer, high end NZXT cases you are limited by the odd fan sizes. The 200mm fans are a true 200mm and other brands of 200mm fans won't fit the mounting holes. They really are great fans though.

Sorry I don't have a youtube channel nor have I ever recorded gameplay. I'm sure with a little searching you can find someone who does though. :)

So you just didn't like Shadow of Mordor Gman? That's the first time I've heard about MGS The Phantom Pain. Looks like it might be pretty good.

No I didn't. I heard so much about this game yet I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I didn't play too long. I think I only dropped in 3-4 hours before I started losing interest entirely. Perhaps I should have given it more time. Every side mission (of the few I played) was uninteresting . Go here, kill 10 of those enemies, use stealth, go kill the general..etc. The nemesis system looked cool, though I got really intimidated. I couldn't stretch beyond maybe 20 minutes before I started to get bored.

Phantom Pain looks really good. I played Ground Zeroes, which was short but huge for just one level of the game (if you plan on full stealth, of course...). Ground zeroes was my first Metal Gear game. The phantom pain seems like a whole different take on the metal gear series, making it open world and such. I'm hyped for that one.

Shadow of Mordor is a love/hate affair for me.

I like the graphics, I like the AI system changing ranks on the fly and making you play carefully. I like the many enviro objects you can interact with, the stealth, and upgrade system. I also like many of the challenges.

Where the game can get annoying though is when big groups accumulate from noticing a battle you engage in, and the run speed becomes sluggish and slightly hitchy. The mouse cam is also pretty bad.

It's also a game that you don't want to spam Domination too much because once you get most or all of the Orcs dominated, it's way too boring and easy. Talion also becomes rather overpowered once you get all the upgrades.

I also found the ending to be quite a disappointment gameplay wise. The ironic thing is, in many ways the game was built for great replay value, esp the AI system. The problem is, there are too many things keeping you from actually WANTING to play through it again.

Looks like something I can wait until next year's Steam sales to pick up then.

Just tried American Nightmare after hearing the raves. Meh, should have known when it was described as more action oriented.

I'll give them credit for offering new set pieces, but it lacks a lot of the atmosphere of the main game. It's not dark enough, and it doesn't have thick woods you have to travel.

Instead they actually warp you to the next location, so lame. Even ammo, batteries, health and checkpoints can be spammed whenever you like.

Honestly, don't know what they were thinking with this. It doesn't feel like survival horror at all. So far I'd give it a 6/10 at best, and the main game was at least 8.5/10.

I'm enjoying it as a follow up to the main game. Same fun combat and the updated weapon set adds to it. It's fairly mindless compared to the story of the first game and that can be good sometimes.

Have to disagree completely. I find that the lack of spooky terrain, easy action gameplay, and abundance of supplies subtract very much from the immersion. Even the dialog with NPCs is corny and just a waste of time.

Some might like the added weapons, but to me they are just another way of ruining the feel of the game, and so far I've found them unnecessary. Unlocking them via manuscript pages even minimizes the value of the one thing in the game that tries to give the story depth.

I can't believe this is from Remedy. It's as if they relegated the DLC to a cheap 3rd party team.

I'm just going to hold onto my money and wait for Star Wars: Battlefront. I've got plenty of games I've still got to play anyway.

And if Star Wars: Battlefront turns out to be a steaming pile of horse dung then I'll just go down the line and wait for No Mans Sky. And if No Mans Sky fails.. Well.. There's my life gone.

Wow, does the Metro 2033 Redux edition look amazing. It's still a performance beast as well. With the 980 Ti I can max all settings at 2560 x 1440 but SSAA has four settings, off, .5, 2 and 4 and 4 is unplayable. It is as smooth as butter at 2 though and those graphics are about as good as any game I've seen.

I really need to download FRAPS and see just what I'm getting but I've never really cared about the numbers so much as the experience.

Oh hell yeah, 2033 Redux looks way better than original, and performs well even on my 7970 (at 1080p). I also loved the added gameplay and safes you could crack for goodies. However Survival mode was too easy, too many supplies.

Just the way they do wind and rain and mask wiping alone with the new engine is really cool.

Yeah you can expect higher AA settings in any game like Crysis 3, Metro, etc to be tough to play on. IMO though, despite the small nit picks, they do remastering right. Most just give you better eye candy and call it good enough.

4A are highly underrated devs. I am so glad they got their new Malta studio and am really looking forward to their next stuff.

As for Battlefront, I just hope solo play isn't constant die/respawn like mp. And if they don't have clone humor like some are saying, that is going to be sorely missed. The lack of space battles I can probably deal with though, it was never my forte.

I played 2033 the first time on that GTX 460 1GB and that was one of the only games I had to lower settings at 1080p to be playable. That was such a good card I kept it a little over 3 years, longer than I've ever kept a card before I believe. I hope Last Light Redux is as good as 2033 is so far. I always loved both games. I need to revisit the STALKER games as well. If you like a challenge those should be right up your alley! Shadow of Chernobyl was my favorite of the three.

Some of that stuff can feel fun at first, but I always looked at it as something you do after you've played through a few times and are bored with normal stealth tactics. The Blink esp can be spammed so much it doesn't even feel like a stealth game anymore. In fact many were wondering if being able to use it to avoid fall damage was even intended by the devs, and sure enough, when they first commented on it after seeing players gameplay footage, they seemed unaware of it. At that point most of us assumed it was not an intentional part of the game, and they left it in just to allow people to play in bizarre ways.
