imrazor :
Interesting to see all the mentions of Dead Space in this thread. Over the years I acquired DS1 & DS3 in various bundles, but never got around to playing them. I'm primarily used to RPGs, so I'm not so sure how well I'd do in an Horror/Survival/Action game. From what I've read, you need to be a good shot in the Dead Space series.
It's not as bad as you might think. In DS 1 & 2 you are using mostly space age mining tools for weapons that have multiple plasma beams for breaking rock. Thus you can fairly easily line up limb/tentacle severing shots, especially since much of the combat is close range.
There are also weapons that simulate a shotgun, particle beam, or one called a Force Gun that quickly kills or knocks back enemies that get too close, and those have a much wider spread, except for the Contact Beam, which is a very powerful one hit kill weapon.
The beauty of the series is they innovated things like a holographic inventory screen projected by your R.I.G. (mining suit), as well as health and stasis module bars that show up as lights on the back of your suit. The stasis module allows you to fire it at certain objects or enemies to slow them down momentarily, another thing that aids aiming.
Then you have Kinesis, which allows you to pick up and throw heavy objects blocking your path, or even break the bladed ends off monster corpse limbs to toss as spears, which helps conserve ammo. There are also Stasis gel canisters you can pick up and toss, which is a powerful slow mo weapon that conserves your stasis module.
Both Stasis and Kinesis are fired by attachments placed on the arm opposite your weapon trigger hand, so you only need look the proper direction and hit the pertaining key, and the weapon you're carrying stays equipped. The reason DS series is so popular is it has a great horror feel and innovates with creative gameplay elements.
