Wasn't the GTA 4 much more realistic at its time? (Yeah unless gummy dropping from car).

And just to add, i started to play out Far Cry 5, ughhh, my CPU struggles a LOT, soo if anyone has issue just limit frames with Riva tuner to around 40.
Seems pretty hard to choice where to go after first tower mission, seems like its more exploring/open world, but that kinda makes me go mad....

As for Dying light, i just go the DLC but as i renewed my windows, my saves are gone
:/

I saw up the commend about Resident evil, i played it since Playstation 1, I made trought the 1-3 but i never got time to finish up last 4 (including the new one).
First time going into basement as i was 7 year old kid hahahahaha....

Oh don't get me wrong. I just didn't play through it much because I was playing other games at the time. I love action games. I just finished Resident Evil 4, which I think is absolutely brilliant. I also love the Just Cause games.

I'm sure I'll give Dying Light some time, like I've done with other games in the past.

The Witcher 3 + DLC's are far and beyond the best game, I ever tried. Everything in that game is pretty much pure perfection, perhaps aside from the clunky menu and at times annoying controls when inside cramped spaces.
The Last of Us gets sort off close but not really, fantastic game though.

I've been playing Kingdom Come a lot and I play PUBG with friends. I just couldn't get into Fortnite. Too cartooney and unrealistic for my taste. I also play a ton of Overwatch Deathmatch but not the original team play much anymore. I lost faith in the ranking system after I won 7, tied 2 and lost 1 and still got placed in fkn bronze.

Currently playing Far Cry 5, beat the game, just cleaning up the extra stuff now.

Looking forward to Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, really liked Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise Of The Tomb Raider. (Played all of them since 1995)

I got almost 90 hours out of Dying Light and it could have been more as I skipped a few of the fetch quests in the base game. I'll play it again at some point.

Now I'm playing X-Com 2. X-Com Enemy Unknown ( really Enemy Within ) being one of my all time favorites it's no surprise I'm loving X-Com 2.

State of Decay 2 comes out on the 22nd but for some reason it's not available on Steam yet. State of Decay is another of my all time favorites and I would have preordered 2 already if it was on Steam.

I tried SoD 1, but Ughh. I've heard of the improvements for SoD 2, but after watching this, am not impressed. IMO he got everything right about what's wrong with the series.

It isn't just the mediocre graphics and lack of polish, it's that I've never liked the arcade type zombie games. I mean it looks like something more out of a comic book than anything to do with horror. There's no attempt to offer a horror atmosphere at all.

I was at first anxious to see what Overkill's The Walking Dead will be like, especially since the trailers look pretty good, but the more I hear about it the more it sounds like it's going to play like a reskinned PayDay, so I'll probably pass on it.

The only horror title coming up I can think of, on PC anyway, that I'm definitely going to want to play, is Metro Exodus. I like the survival elements of SoD, just not in an atmosphere that's more arcade than horror. Wikipedia calls the SoD genre Action-Adventure, Survival Horror, Stealth.

IMO that is confusing because this is not really a true Survival Horror game at all. This dev team is not even good enough to know how to do basic things like lighting, shadows, and animations, let alone a horror atmosphere.

I got a completely different vibe from State of Decay 2, while watching the review by ACG. He found it to be quite enjoyable and I can see why they call it survival horror.

I thought the first State of Decay was an absolute blast especially for what's essentially an indie game. Especially the Breakdown DLC. The open world gameplay is what made it fun. The exact opposite of something like The Evil Within which was all atmospherics with tedious controls and a linear story. I've got 450 hours in State of Decay vs it took me a month to slog through 12 hours of The Evil Within which just forgot to be fun.

The second one is buggy from what I've seen. BUT gameplay looks like more of the first game which is exactly what I wanted. I'll get it after I finish the War of the Chosen expansion for XCom 2.

Odd you equate "open world" and "fun" with horror. That atmosphere you referred to in TEW is a necessary element of horror games, as are the close quarters maps and linear gameplay you find in most good horror games. Open world and fun more describes action adventure games. Good horror games are more often tense and claustrophobic.

I can't think of a better example than TEW 2. They totally dumbed it down, paying more attention to open world, a cover system, and even auto takedowns. The enemies are so dumb you can literally run around a car and lose them. Horror games, especially survival horror games, are supposed to be intimidating and challenging. I want my survival horror games to be as much about a horrific atmosphere, as resource management. They should put you through BOTH types of mental anguish.

Tango caved to the whiners that didn't have enough respect and patience to learn how to effectively play TEW 1. It's a way better game than most gave it credit for. We're slowly losing good horror games because either the dev teams dumb them down, or their studios get shut down, and their teams dismantled, like happened to Visceral Games recently. And this is because a lot of players, many of whom come from console gaming, don't appreciate truly good game design.

The guy reviewing SoD 2 is a typical example of what's wrong with horror games these days. They rush through the review as quickly as people rush through these arcade type games. I don't want my horror experience to play like some novelty Dead Rising type game. Horror atmosphere is an art that is slowly dying I'm afraid, because the bar is set so low by the GTA type that like horsing around gameplay, and cartoon looking zombies with glowing eyes. It's so lame beyond belief I can't believe so many people fall for it. :sarcastic:

"Horror" doesn't have to be PTSD inducing to be good. I consider The Evil Dead series to be great horror and it's also campy fun. Not every horror game is out to give you nightmares lol.

I disagree completely. It's as if many want to change the definition of the word horror. Even a haunted house that's meant as a prop for fun is not referred to as a house of horrors. The two are entirely different things.

Part of the problem is the zombie type games have been so done to death it's getting to the point where devs are jumping on the cake train. They want to make simple games that can be made easily and cheaply as a cash grab.

I'd be completely OK if they called these types of games Survival Adventure, or Zombie Survival, but Survival Horror they are not. They are trying to redefine the genre, and it's causing an attrition of games that really are survival horror.

I hope they give us a fully fleshed out world this time. I really liked the first one but it just felt incomplete.

Me too. The first one had such potential but the world was basically empty. Mad Max did RAGE better than RAGE did.

I agree Mad Max was done better than original RAGE. On the surface this one certainly looks better, but keep in mind trailers are often misleading and uncompressed textures unlike the final build. It also seems with all the colors and gangs they're trying to mimic Fury Road.

I've read they're using the Avalanche engine this time. It's a bit worrisome IMO because Just Cause 3 had lots of problems with flickering shadows in some places. Plus I'm wondering if it means no Vulkan support, which was great in Doom 2016.

There can't be only one... I could tell more than 10 EPIC games in every genre: Diablo2, Heroes II-III, Trackmania, Doom, Carmageddon...

But all time best maybe WOW

So who's not excited about this?

https://kotaku.com/sources-fallout-76-is-an-online-survival-rpg-1826425333

New Fallout game? ( Take my money! ) Maybe a New Vegas style spinoff? ( Take my money! ) A Fallout 3 remaster? ( Take my money! )

Oh no, it's an online survival RPG. Oh well, I guess I'll be keeping my money. :(

What a bummer. I already feel like The Elder Scrolls Online is why we don't have a new TES game. This better not delay a new Fallout game for 10 years.

They lost me at online only.

I'm seeing hints online that its not an MMO, but rather a co-op game built around survival and base building. Not as much of a turd as an MMO, but still not my cup of tea.

In other news....been playing Battletech. As a fan of the now ancient Mechforce (viva la Amiga), it scratches an itch I've had for quite a while. It can be brutal though...and no difficulty slider.

They can keep Fallout 76 but I'll play this. It looks awesome.

From here: http://www.guru3d.com/

Radian-Helix Media has published a trailer for the mod Fallout: New California. The mod is released on October 23rd and is, in fact, a completely new Fallout game that uses the Fallout: New Vegas engine. Fallout: New California is a prequel to Fallout New Vegas and promises to feature hours of new gameplay, as well as a fully voiced stand-alone campaign. This total conversion mod will add an all-new story around a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic’s Cajon Pass.

@anort3 I've been following this mod since it was Project Brazil. I have high hopes for the gameplay, but its based on New Vegas, an eight year old game that was already using an old engine.
