I knew you could marry in the game.
And in a nice stroke of "And that's when I realized I was old" found out the lady I'd been giving gifts to wasn't available, but her daughter was.

Speaking of kickstarter, I was pretty bummed when I learned that System Shock remake was put on hiatus...

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted. I haven't finished Hellblade which means I got side tracked. I've been playing SOMA in safe mode where the monsters don't attack you if you leave them alone. So far I'm really loving the game.

I've also been playing a lot of Assassins' Creed Origins. Man, this game feels so different from any of the past ACs I've played. I guess it's mostly got to do with the mechanics and combat. Egypt is drop dead gorgeous and the gameplay is really good. It's also now that I feel like I'm hitting that upgrade wall, even at 720p. I'm playing it at very low settings and it just isn't cutting it all that well.

Just started playing AC Origins a couple days ago myself. I have very mixed emotions about it. While the world and gameplay concepts are solid, the execution, mostly due to horrid controls, makes me feel like it could have been SO much better.

It's an idiotic combination of manual controls and features like Overpower, which is an on rails attack that often misses unless you are set up for it just right. The Eagle, Horses and Camels all travel FAR too slowly as well, yet a small sail boat moves like a power racing boat.

Even simple stealth in this game quite often feels clumsy. I also hate that you have to be locked on to an enemy for most combat moves to work, especially since the camera angle it forces is so awkward. It seems like yet another Ubi game that was not tested properly before release.

I'm playing Hellblade right now. Amazing character animation. Maybe the best I've ever seen. I thought this was really cool.

Also just got Dying Light. I finally won a contest from Tom's a few weeks ago, a $100 Steam gift card. My first win ever and I've entered every contest since 2009. lol

Finally went back an beat Remember Me last month. Very cool, underrated game.

Also playing Hitman.

I thought the controls were okay. They took away the ability to sprint whenever you wanted while on a horse or camel but I didn't obsess over it too much. I agree that the boats feel bad. They do indeed go a lot faster than they're supposed to.

I used to lock onto the enemy at first but then I stopped doing it. It's still very much possible to engage in combat without having to lock onto anyone. It's much better too. If you're going one on one, then locking it is fine. Try out the axe for a change. It feels really different and powerful.

I use the overpower a lot when I'm being overwhelmed with soldiers or if I want to kill someone off quick but, I've never missed hitting anyone yet. I never thought you could miss with that attack, to be honest. Just make sure you're pointing straight to the enemy and you're close enough.

Congrats, dude. That must be pretty awesome.
I tried to get into Dying Light but I never got past the tutorial.

After acquiring more upgrades and skills, it's getting better. I really like Shield Charge. I also got the hang of Overpower, but you have to be close enough and full stamina to use it, and hold down Shift+F until it completes. Before I wasn't holding it down. For some reason I have better results with it on the horse though. LOL

As far as on foot combat without locking on, I have tried that, but you're much more likely to swing and miss, and MUCH less likely to get critical hits. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't also lock you into such a horrible camera angle. It's like that feeling when you have a stiff neck and you're forced to look one direction.

There's other little glitches in the game, like why is it the torch will burn the bamboo grate blocking access to the treasure in the lost crypt on the island in Lake Mareotis, yet two firebombs do nothing but blacken it? There were also two war ships docked near a military camp, one of which I no-clipped through when trying to swim to it. It's guards were floating in the air and the ship's textures were bland and not detailed. Granted, that's the only graphics glitch I've seen so far, but a pretty bad one.

The game world is huge though and so far I'm only to about level 21 with most of Alexandria finished. I spend most of my time grinding to get resources for upgrades, but now that I've leveled up a bit, that has gotten quite easy. Anymore I just save my arrows and take on convoys with my sword.

One of the things I find pretty cool is you are not safe from crocks and hippos on a boat. If you do not kill them fast enough, they will eventually trash it, and then you're swimming. I have to admit though, I'm now liking that small sail boats travel pretty fast too, but I hate when I forget they are too tall to pass under the arches of bridges. I was on the "Bodyguard" quest and the lady I was escorting had to swim with me from there after the sail boat wrecked. Then she started remarking on how dirty the water was. LOL

I miss hitting enemies at times with the axe because it's got a slow swing, despite having range. The combat is to me, a lot easier now than from the start. Fighting enemies on top of a horse is a lot more easier too. All your swings are critical and it doesn't matter if you're 10 feet away from the enemy. It'll still register, lol. I actually like it and I can't think even think how it could've worked out in any other way, without causing irritation.

I'm at level 24 and I've got some really cool legendary, rare weapons of all kinds. I just stick to one set of weapons and decide to upgrade them when I feel they're becoming worse. I hunt for animal skin occasionally to craft stuff that would increase health, blade damage, melee damage, ranged damage...etc.

One thing I haven't done, is put the hood on. Lol, I don't know why. I just don't feel like it. I sometimes put on the beard and the shaved head otherwise, I'm mainly clean shaven.

I'm getting much better results with Overpower now, even without being locked on. I just make sure I'm close enough and that Bayek's aim steers into the target. To a small degree it seems correctable as he's charging. Also managed to take out a Phylake bounty hunter that was same level as me when I was 22.

Fortunately there was a lot of guards attacking him, though they were really doing more distracting than damage. I started out with a Predator arrow from a distance, which did very little damage. Then I retreated to a hut roof when he came toward me and fired Hunter arrows. Also managed to get in an air attack, which did a fair amount of damage. I then got on my horse and finished him off. Fighting from your steed rules in this game. You can easily circle around the enemy and get in a lot of strikes and they can't get very many hits on you. I'm currently at level 25.

I've got some decent weapons now too, and have never bought any or even upgraded any. I found a spear that came maxed on critical hit.

I used mostly the Desert Cobra outfit first, but now I use the Sekhmet one, without the helmet. I tried using the hood now and then when wearing the Desert Cobra outfit, but it has an annoying tendency to muffle Bayek's dialog, so it makes everything he says lack clarity.

I entered and won all the Chariot tournaments at the Hippodrome. I came in 2nd or 3rd in some of the races, but had enough points to win each tourny. You really have to be careful not to use boost when you don't need it. I found out the hard way the other racers can ram you from behind, but the player can only ram sideways. Some of the races where I got knocked of my chariot i still won though. I'm only playing on Normal difficulty this play through though. I'm not sure if the races get harder on higher difficulty levels.

I've taken out 3 of them so far, and am level 27 now. The last one I just killed I used mostly stealth. If you pop them with a high Stealth damage stat Predator arrow, then duck behind a roof peak, they will search for about a minute, then go back to what they were doing. I also got in an air attack, which again, does a fair amount of damage. Even when they see you they are easy to lose. By the end of the fight I'd drawn far more attention from random guards passing by than the Phylake, but they were easy to take out from my horse.

The thing about this game's difficulty is it is measured entirely by your player level and the level of the region you are in. If you want to engage in combat it's best you stay in regions with enemies of the same level. I'm sure you know by know there are immediate indicators if you wander into areas too hard, like red level number and skulls above the enemies. Well the regions themselves if you zoom out the map also show the range of enemy levels, and if you highlight a Phylake on the map with your mouse, it will show exactly what level he is.

Phylakes are best handled in my experience with guerrilla warfare though. You need to attack, then retreat until his search cools down, and/or you recover. If you're trying to do close quarter battling with them, that may be why you're having trouble.

Yep. All 47 pages of this thread are full of them. ;)

Depends what kind of games you like and what you've already played. For me the stand out games of 2017 were Ghost Recon Wildlands, Wolfenstien II, Middle Earth Shadow of War, Sniper Elite 4, and AC Origins. CoD WWII was fairly good too, but not optimized very well, though neither was Wolf II.

As for games coming soon I'm interested in, Far Cry 5 will release in about 2 weeks.

Well in my life i passed 80% of them...
I watched this thread like 2 or 3 years, i did deadspace, far cry, crysis, COD series (all),
State of Decay, Even Dark souls (except 1st one, buggy controls), Witcher is nahh but still done it,Im not fan of batman games as they are "stupid" i like cartoons more, every
assasins creed, warhammer, the walking dead and rest of teltale games,
Hahahaha, even similar game to Crash Time,
not speaking of Sleeping Dogs,GTA series, Crysis games, i had classic nes games tho :( .all metal gear except newest one (Zombies????), nfs series.

Well you might be thinking am i pirating games? No, hahahaha usually my neighbour had Assasins creed , my older brother had crysis games, my sisters husband had Skyrim Oblivion Original pack with Map :O , and friends some games, usually in town was gaming club where you could borrow original games like movies in "shops" (not sure how to translate).

Well call me a gamer :D even tho im 19 now :) (sooooon).

The only game that i overpriced is PUBG [strike]50$[/strike] on beta ;_; , pardon me it was 30$

Just finished the main story line of AC Origins, and I must say, it's a very good game. I clocked right around 100 hrs, there's SOO much to do in this game. I really loved the gladiator arenas, elephant arenas, and chariot races.

I also wasn't expecting ship battles in this one, so that was a treat as well. Now I'm onto doing The Hidden Ones DLC, after I double check to make sure I didn't miss any main and side quests in the campaign.

I can second that. I haven't been so engaged with an AC game as much as this one, till date (apart from AC2). I'm getting a lot of Witcher vibes from it. I've been playing a lot of side quests lately and the whole of Egypt. I've put the main quest on hold. I'm at level 33 with 30 hours of playtime and I still can't get enough of it. Wish it ran well on my PC though.

@anort3 Could you expand a bit on your Remember Me experience? It's by the same people that did Life is Strange, which I really enjoyed.

AC Origins is *very* demanding. On a Ryzen 7 with a Radeon 580 I'm getting 45 fps on Medium @ 1080p and 42 fps on Very High. It might be because this pre-built has single channel RAM. I'm not sure if I should drop another $200 on another 16GB stick of DDR4-2400.

I went with a 'gadgeteer' build in AC Origins. The best way I've found to deal with big shields is to use my smoke cloud ability, then flank or backstab my enemy while he's blinded. I usually use a spear. Damage isn't the best, but the reach is awesome.

One thing I don't like about AC Origins is that all of the dialog is linear. You don't get the option of saying no to a quest, or telling a quest giver off. It lessens the immersion for me, and makes Bayek a bit one-dimensional.

EDIT: This game is nuts. At Very Low I get 51 fps, at Very High I get 42 fps. Might as well dial up the settings and forget 60 fps.

I'm playing at 1080p at 70% rendering resolution, very low settings except specular reflections and ambient occlusion on high or so. In cities, it goes as down as 21-24 fps. In all other places I get like 30-45. It's playable for me..

I just noticed there's no mini map in the game. I hardly noticed it till now. IMO, it's good they've gotten rid of it. Else I'd probably have my eyes on it the whole time while travelling or something.

It's at heart a fighting game but with a really cool story, a memorable main character and some really amazing backdrops. Almost Deus Ex in its dystopian vibe. It was underrated in my opinion.

I paused Hellblade to start Dying Light and haven't quit long enough to go back to yet. Awesome game.

Battletech and State of Decay 2 next month. I'll preorder both and that's a rare thing.

I heard about the game (Remember Me) back when it released. At one point I even thought of playing it but it seems I got occupied with something else.
Speaking of Hellblade, I haven't gotten back to it. Since it's a pretty straightforward game, gameplay wise, it's easy to get back into despite a long break. I had taken a similar time off from it a while back and I didn't find it hard to play through.
