The only semi fix apparently is playing on a high end AMD GPU, since their drivers have less CPU overhead.
its not that clear cut
he has 4090. not having same issues reported.

So its not everyone, actually knowing percentages of people with problems is difficult as those without problems don't post about it. Media and YT channels promote idea the problem is widespread but it might just be hot air, designed to get clicks/views.

Well it DID seem odd to me that a team like Respawn would so badly code a PC game made with UE4, which they've had no trouble with on games like Titanfall 2 and Fallen Order.

That said, it IS getting a lot more common that teams can't for the life of them get CPU, RAM and VRAM usage under control, even in titles that release simultaneously on console and PC and aren't really ports.

A common theme in these scenarios is the allocation of RAM and VRAM is WAY higher than that which the game actually uses, and I have to wonder if the new Nividia drivers or hardware has something to do with it.

The bottom line for me though is when Steam has no better than "Mixed" rating status, there's usually far more people having issues with the game than those whom aren't, and those whom aren't are also on top of the line spec.

That doesn't exactly paint a rosy picture for Respawn.

Alright, here is a chance to play one of the latest so-called AAA games for FREE. I wish more latest games were given a free trial offer like this.

Electronic Arts has released a 90-minute free trial for the PC version of Dead Space Remake on Steam. From today until May 29th, you can download this free trial and get a taste of this third-person horror game.

Since it is free, although only for 90 minutes, at least I can get a taste on how this game runs on my potato PC.

Yeah a guy on TechPowerUp forums mentioned this. I couldn't see the option in the link he provided because you have to be logged into Steam for it to even show.

I DLed it last night and will be playing it when it gets dark tonight. From what I've seen via a YouTube vid, I should be able to play it on all High settings at FSR 2 Quality mode at 1080p and average around 75 FPS. The YTer said it dips to 40 FPS sometimes though, probably during big battles.

That said, it DOES hitch when entering new areas as many have said, which is no doubt due to assets loading at map seams, a problem Unreal Engine has had for many years.

Yeah, we need to be logged-in the STEAM account to see this offer, which is kind of odd. Anyway, I have started downloading now, it's almost 40GB in total size. Yes, many have complained about these hitches and stutters. The prologue area is one of the most demanding areas strangely.

But mostly the game still suffers from traversal stutters as noted by many. You can experience small stutters when visiting specific locations. These aren’t shader compilation stutters though (because the game compiles shaders when you first launch it).

Let me know how the game runs on your PC. I'm not expecting much on my system, since it is too weak for this game. But since it is a free trail, there is no harm in trying.

That's why I said they are likely caused by the engine loading assets at map seams, which are usually placed in between areas that are not likely to involve combat.

I ended up not having time to play it tonight, as I just received the movie The Fablemans tonight and watched it instead (roughly 2.5 hrs). Not a bad movie, and is said to be more accurate than many biopics are. They basically just changed the names.

Alan Wake 2 "supposed" to release this October, voice actor says.

It appears that Alan Wake 2 will release this October. In a recent interview with Monsters, Madness and Magic, Matthew Porretta, the voice actor of Alan Wake, claimed that the game is supposed to come out in October 2023.

You can clearly hear Porretta revealing the game’s release date at the 18-minute mark.

Well, late October would be an ideal release date for their first ever attempt at survival horror.

Well, Remedy actually has just released the first gameplay trailer for Alan Wake 2. The game will release on October 17th to be precise.

Also, on some other gaming news, Ubisoft has just shared the first official gameplay trailer for "Assassin’s Creed Mirage". Assassin’s Creed Mirage will release on October 12th. The game gives me AC: ORIGINS vibe.

But it looks the same as previous AC games, especially the combat/gameplay mechanics, and I don't think this whole AC franchise is ever gonna die ! They keep on releasing new games.

Alan Wake 2 looks great, I like that they are still keeping it a psychological thriller and just adapting it to the survival horror format. I also really like that Sam Lake has a cameo appearance at the :51 mark. He's a talented writer himself, so it's very apropos he makes an appearance in the game I think.

AC Mirage looks good, but I don't know if I can trust their AC games anymore. I got sucked into getting Valhalla. It started out seeming like a pretty good game, good graphics, good performance. I'm well past the prologue now though and I'm finding many things I don't like.

The controls are very hard to get used to, like awkwardly tucking your thumb under your WASD fingers to use L Alt for dodge. The sense vision only pulses for a brief moment, which is not enough as the lighting leaves many areas too dark. And now that I am in my first boss fight, I'm finding the performance is very hitchy, even though I left everything set to the auto detect recommendations. Also, the ship sailing is not nearly as cinematic as it was in earlier ACs that had it. It looks like a little toy boat bobbing like a cork.

Love the Snake Eater trailer, the Japanese developers are very good at making cutscenes and trailers.

It's typical Ubisoft, so expect the new game to also feature a lot of grinding as previous entries. It will be the same copy/paste formula, with some minor gameplay changes.

Valhalla is actually a good game at least IMO, but there are TOO many quests to complete that sometimes it gets a bit confusing. Need a lot of time to beat the full game. I only completed 25% of the game though. Yes, there are some gameplay and control issues with this game. Sense Vision is the worst I have even in any AC game.

Unless I buy a new GPU I'm not sure whether I can even complete this game. Though, luckily I completed Origins and Odyssey, before my GPU died.

I actually liked Origins and Odyssey a lot. Valhalla though is a mess by comparison, and not worthy of the great Norse mythology it's based on. People have wanted a good Viking AC for some time, and they got burned IMO.

Pre installs Diablo 4. Would like to think I can resist sitting a server queue on 1st day but I have my doubts. I stayed up night before D3 came out... I can't do that this time as I have a course the next day (depends on if 6th is worldwide or I have to wait 18 hours for game servers to go live in USA). If I have to wait, it means course is on so either way I should just try to resist.

Only 46gb though not sure if that includes 4k textures. I won't be using 4k anyway. I only have a 1440p screen.
Launcher spent 4 minutes or so calculating space and I unticked textures in that time but I wasn't sure if it noticed or not.
its not out until 6th.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Assassin's Creed Mirage and discover how the development team created an experience that pays tribute to the beginnings of Assassin's Creed by revisiting its core pillars: parkour, stealth and assassinations. Worth giving a watch.

Can you guys easily access all REDDIT posts ? I cannot open many of them.

It says , <name of the subrediit> has gone private in protest of Reddit's recent behavior and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools.

Well, Reddit opens themselves up to a lot of controversy and complaints, as they allow posts on pretty much all topics, including pirated content, so I'm not a bit surprised by that.

Maybe REDDIT will slowly turn into a PAID forum of some sort, lol.

I'm not a Redditor by any means though, nor a regular, and I don't even have a proper account, but yesterday I was just browsing for some info on a specific motherboard, and now can't even access it anymore. I have browsed some of the subreddit forums before as well, but only if needed.

They had been funding themselves with nice to haves. Giving someone 'gold' required buying it from Reddit. Voluntary and harmless.

Now I understand they have significant costs that advertising (which online is dying a very slow death) is not going to cover. But they are essentially pricing out competition and community development, which will more or less kill the concept.

Pay wall gardens has been the path the internet/streaming/ISP/phone service etc has been going down for a while. Every time a company makes an attempt they get a little further as long as it isn't too egregious. (Was it AT&T that tried to do preferential service to their own apps? That didn't go over well, but now I don't believe the FTC would try and stop them) Net neutrality doesn't have the teeth it used to.

Has anyone played DEAD ISLAND 2 ? Worth the purchase ? Lots of Zombie blood and gore, which I really like. But first I need to buy a discrete mainstream GPU before I can even buy this, assuming it is worth playing.

Hey, Bud.
Long time no see. How'r you doing? I seen a few games you play and I play, too. I wonder if you can tell me something about Battlefield 3. It's obvious EA's trying to make BF3 go away. But in another game organization's eyes, (Venice Unleashed) had restarted BF 3 for BF 3 gamers/fan base. Last year, I got really excited 'Venice Unleashed' started a BF3 game site with bots. Well, the game had continual glitches and wasn't good about playing maps consistently. My friends and I tried a number of techniques, hardware and program changes. No cure. We assumed EA was sabotaging VU's exploit.
I go to the VU game site and no one is playing BF 3 in any of the game servers. In EA, I don't find them very acute to the desires of gamers. They seem to have no interest except to sell games. It use to be they very in-tune to their fan base. Now I don't give a *(#$^% about them.
BF 2, 2142, 3 and 4 had a certain gaming mystique I miss and I wish EA would re-introduce it to some extent. They had 'Punk Buster' which I thought was really helpful.
Here is the question. Does EA have any interest in re-introducing BF 3 or 4 to any extent? They don't seem to like living off the success of their previous games, adding maps, creating bigger servers to do a better job.
The European games like WW3 are o.k. but the ping is horrible.
I think BF 3 and 4 could've been around longer had they gone the way of EPIC

I'm currently playing TIMESHIFT now ! This FPS is way too much immersive (at least for my taste), and the player can STOP, SLOW or REVERSE the gameplay time ! It's pretty fun to play such an old shooter.

Gone are the days, when we used to buy a CD-ROM to play Games. Now, everything is digital, plagued with GaaS, micro-transactions, LOOT boxes, and downgraded content.

This is NOT my gameplay video, but at least it will give anyone who watches, a glimpse of what type of game this really is.

Is there a multiplayer feature?

I went from disinterested when it got took over by another dev team that was intent on turning the franchise into a comedy, to considering it after watching some recent gameplay trailers that show over the top ways to kill zombies. I'm not normally into what I call "Horsing Around" games, but as few genres as I take interest in, and the high percentage of PC games releasing in horrible condition, I end up not gaming as much unless I stretch what is acceptable to me.

BTW, I've been playing AC Valhalla lately, and it's been a mixed bag for me weighing more on the neg experience side. I enjoyed Origins and Odyssey far more, largely due to the combat mechanics being much more manageable for me, and the progression being more predictable and doable.

In Valhalla, I don't like that they made spears the most overpowered weapon on the enemy side, yet the player doesn't have access to them for some time. Unless you cheat your way to Odin's Spear via no-clip glitching into the cave it resides in, you're going to have to take on lengthy quest lines and grind to get one. In Ubi's defense however, though I thought at first that Vikings didn't actually use spears much, just axes and swords, in researching it I found both Vikings and Anglo Saxons DID use mostly spears.

Still though, I cannot excuse at all the way Ubi structures progress through this game. There have been many times without warning I end up going on a quest that starts out very doable, only to end with enemies that are 2-5 times my power level, it's idiotic! I have searched for how to access spears via normal gameplay, but pretty much all the ways involve going into regions that are at least twice my power level.

So I have to ask you MM, I seem to recall you saying you tried the game, did you ever play it long enough to acquire a spear, and if so, where did you get it and on what quests?

I'm usually not that great at games that require precisely timed counters, but this one also is confusing in making me not understand whether spear attacks are supposed to be blockable (I usually can't block them). I had no problem blocking in Skyrim, Origins, Odyssey, and God of War 2018 (save for the Valkyrie Queen), but in this game I can only seem to consistently block those with swords, axes, and hammers.
