i would never have attached a "hated" attribute to their name.
i've been deep into hard rock / metal since the late-eightees and when Cowboys from Hell came out and since they have always held a high place in the hardcore catalogue.
in my own opinion one of the highest, with songs that hit some of the hardest strings of our existence while still keeping an intelligent aspect.

I agree with you. Even I don't dislike this band. There are some Metalheads though who have a different point of view regarding this band. In fact some of their albums/songs are pretty brutal. Phil is a great vocalist as well. I always liked the "chemistry" of these 4 guys, and how they play in perfect harmony. Really talented musicians though.

In fact, I consider this LIVE album one of the best in METAL history, the Official Live: 101 Proof . You can feel the aggression and energy in this album. Some tracks from this live album. This is perfection, in my honest opinion.

Pantera's "Official Live: 101 Proof" is one of the finest examples of what made Pantera one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, not to mention a killer live act. The album captures in spades all the energy and intensity of a live Pantera show, featuring stellar performances from each member of the band.

One of the most redeeming qualities of this album are early Pantera classics (off of "Cowboys From Hell" and "Vulgar Display of Power") given steroid injections via Dimebag's updated and far more brutal guitar work (circa 1996), resulting in much heavier versions than the originals.

Also, the production here is among the finest of any live recording I have ever heard, and the transitions between songs from different shows are both smooth and coherent. The album artwork of this record is full of symbolism directly relating to Pantera’s roots.

For example, the phrase 101 proof is a direct reference to moonshine which is very present in southern culture and has a high alcohol content at 50% (101 proof.) The bottle on the album cover is a Jack Daniel’s Whiskey bottle usually featuring the number 7 on it, but because that this was Pantera’s fifth record, the band put the number 5 on the bottle’s label.

Featuring the message “Pure Against The Grain American Metal” Pantera gives its listeners an awesome live album that will remain one of the best metal live albums of all time. It’s a shame that this was the only live album that this band did, because I would have definitely bought that one too.

Some tracks from this legendary BLACK METAL band from SWEDEN. ""DARK FUNERAL"". Unlike "True Norwegian" BM style/genre, these guys are more technical.

Dark Funeral is an interesting band. They are one of the most well known black metal bands from Sweden, alongside Marduk, Dissection, and Watain. Almost all black metal listeners are aware of their debut, and the album, entitled The Secrets of the Black Arts is heavily praised for its immersive album cover. It's almost a visual portal into the music contained within, depicting a bluish nightsky shrouding a slightly frosted, castle-like structure of stone. Several hooded figures appear to be partaking in some sort of clandestine ritual, standing around a mysterious tarp-covered object.

As an additional touch, sparse trees and boulders stand on the mountains in the background. It's a true work of art, and it certainly deserves the praise it gets. I still wear TEEs of these album covers.

Dark Funeral is a band that you either love or hate. They are frequently ridiculed for their crystal clear production quality or for their ‘over the top’ approach to the subject matter. I consider both these attributes to be largely positive, and it works to great effect. I have been listening to them since long, and it can hardly be denied that Dark Funeral is one of today's best black metal bands in terms of playing, atmosphere and songwriting.

Black metal generally is a niche acquired taste. It takes a particular endeavor from the band for an album to seduce the outsider, but musically, DARK FUNERAL distinguishes itself from other black metal acts, in that it definitely belongs to the style in terms of format and atmosphere, however there's a strong element of the Swedish metal sound that's apparent throughout.

The musicianship here is what one would expect from a black metal album. They are all competent musicians and players, but in lieu of doing anything flashy, they do an excellent job of keeping the tempos precise and perfect sounding.

There's no doubt that EMPEROR band has been a major influence in Black Metal, especially when it comes to creating the symphonic black metal genre. Many bands would come out to replicate the symphonic style that Emperor is known for, but many of them are either just watered-down versions of Emperor albums or just flat out boring.

Enter VARGRAV, a Finnish BM artist. The artist does stand out in a way that makes him different from most Emperor worship clones, and this was especially apparent with his 2017 debut album "Netherstorm".

Vargrav is the project of sole member V-KhaoZ, a Finn who’s been involved in more bands than I can count.

Vargrav sits firmly in the “symphonic” black metal category, but before you wrinkle your nose in disgust, hold up. Keyboards in black metal is cause for apprehension for many, and for good reason – the abuse of keyboards in black metal has reached absurd levels in the past, with bands being content to drown everything in synth and thinking “we’re Emperor!” These bands, of course, completely missed the point of what made early Emperor so brilliant to begin with.

Enter VARGRAV, who athletically dodged this bullet; and his “Netherstorm” album has similar vibes to “Nightside”-era Emperor. So, with that said, Vargrav is symphonic black metal, but done tastefully. Vargrav honours pioneering bands in this style, and successfully pulls off an album that would be in good company with second wave luminaries like early Emperor, Limbonic Art or even Obtained Enslavement.

The Name of the band comes from the union of the (Swedish) words varg (wolf) and grav (grave). “Vargrav is the rest where a sinister wisdom lurks only to rise again.” The name is also a palindrome with 7 letters. The number 7 is the number of complement. A number of time and space, representing wisdom, perfection, balance and immortality.

Genre: Raw/Symphonic BLACK METAL.

Country of origin: FINLAND (one of the best extreme/underground Finnish Metal bands). Lyrical themes: Loneliness, Solitude, Hatred/Supremacy, Desolation/darkness, Depression, Individuality.

Okay, this one is for a change. Any GUNS N' ROSES fans out here ? Axl Rose getting married in this vid. And of course SLASH on lead. These tracks are still remembered to be Hard/Soft Rock classic ballads.

I consider GNR's sound to have PUNK influence as well on some of the albums, like GN'R LIES.

Every ROSE has its Thorn. Why not, 'cause POISON said so ! Man, I miss the good old 80's GLAM METAL scene. The music was so pure, and it touched everyone's hearts.

In an interview with VH1's Behind the Music, Bret Michaels said the inspiration for the song came from a night when he was in a laundromat in Dallas waiting for his clothes to dry, and called his girlfriend on a pay phone. Michaels said he heard a male voice in the background and was devastated; he said he went into the laundromat and wrote "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" as a result.

One of the best LIVE albums recorded by SLAYER. "Still Reigning". Very THRASHY ! You can feel the aggression and energy in this show. Awesome musicianship.

Regardless of whether you like the album "Reign in Blood" or not, there's no denying its status. So when Slayer proposed the idea of playing the whole album live and releasing it on DVD, fans were hoping to relive the memories.

Like they always have, Slayer pulled through and released a HELL of a live performance. Though the video quality is a bit more grainy and rough, this only helps to bring out the savage nature of the music. Not only did they play the whole album, but they played it damn well. Every chaotic solo was exactly in place, Tom's vocals seem re-energized, and Dave's drumming was merciless just as it was in '86.

What a sweet Heavy Metal ballad. This song always touches my heart.

Queensryche - Silent Lucidity (Official Music Video)

Some THRASH Metal. Old school and early circa Annihilator songs were the best. Not to mention JEFF WATERS' guitar solos. Waters can really rip up a guitar's fretboard. The solos are insanely dazzling, a lot of the time operating at Yngwie-level speed. So many ideas are crammed into those little bursts, it's quite incredible to behold, really.

A primary trait of Annihilator is that no two albums sound entirely alike in my opinion. There are a few musical characteristics that can be expected to hear, like technical, often melodic guitar playing, entertaining lyrics, amongst other things, but they are always grouped with newly evolved sounds.

Enter 'Never, Neverland' album, following up the successful and blazing 'Alice in Hell' album. But the 'Never, Neverland' album was more Groovy, having a slightly power/groove feel to it at times. Or to put it in a different way, a highly technical thrash metal album.

Chuck was cool, he didn't care that he couldn't sing

i prefer him over the guy they got big with... and is still their lead singer.

I had Annihilator albums in the past. Shame most of my music was on cassette and long gone.
