from what i heard TSMC 20nm only focusing on SoC. there are rumors saying that AMD and nvidia will skipping 20nm and will go straight for 16nm FinFet for their next die shrink. and from AMD's latest earning report it seems that all AMD's 2014 product will still in 28nm and currently on 'design phase' with 20nm node although there is no specific mention what product that currently in design using 20nm node is.

Thank you!

It must be a challenging to pack over 7 billion transistors into 16 or 10 nm piece of silicon lol

You're welcome, I think I know what you mean but just to be clear, the nm number refers to the gaps between the transistors and their 'firing ends' not the silicon's overall size.

Bummer! 🙁

Oh well! The rumours have been around for long enough with no signs of anything to refute them in any way but I was so hoping for Maxwell to be on 20nm with the 750 and 750Ti being just tester cards for the smaller node.

when the early rumor talk about 800 series maxwell will be delayed to 2015 most people expecting nvidia to use TSMC 20nm hence the delay. but with this not new rumor not only 800 series maxwell will be very late (late Q4/early 2015) but it will still on 28nm node as well

I was referring to improved density due to the process that allows companies to shrink the die.

Your explanation is more precise.

The 780 ti is a great card and even better now with the improved drivers and recent game updates...

The wait for 20nm Maxwell isn't looking too good, to be honest. Recent reports are suggesting that TSMC's lack of 20nm production yields have forced Nvidia to re-engineer their entire Maxwell 20nm line to use 28nm, again. And even these 28nm Maxwell chips aren't expected to hit the market until this December or 2015. I'm pretty disappointed in the GPU market right now, it feels like we've been standing still since the Radeon R9 cards forced a price drop on Nvidia.

What a clever observation. It's not like we've all been reposting speculations from random sources on the internet. Just bringing my findings to the table.

Now that we've established that TSMC is a useless company of apes, I'll just not worry about this until 2015. Too many reposts.

No worries mate, I thought that was what you might have been referring to but as I have actually spoken to folk who thought the GPU itself was 28nm I thought I'd better check. 😉

Getting 144 fps in just about everythig minus Metro LL on my 2 x 670 Ftw sli BenQ xl2420TE

Upping the res scale in bf4 though makes the image quality so realistic. Although at 200% res scale its rendering the image more times than it does at 100%. Just makes it look so read. If I turn it back down too the normal 100% I stay over 144fps dunno how much past that cause I have my fps locked at 144fps.

but even so isn't that TSMC is likely the no.2 after intel in fab technology? most people only look on the numbers like 28nm, 22nm, 14nm and so on but from what i heard this cannot be compared directly between fab company. for example some said that samsung 14nm actually is like intel 22nm. some other said TSMC 28nm is better than intel 22nm FinFet in terms of transistor density.

in case of Nvidia i bet they like to jump ship from TSMC if there are other fab companies capable of offering what they want but gpu is the most complex silicon to build to date. currently GK110 have 7+ billion transistor so i'm expecting nvidia to have more than 10 billion transistor on their big Maxwell.
