When is the GTX 800 Series release date?

Based on the latest article, the 980 will be priced at $600. So it seems as if the only point of getting Maxwell is for better power efficiency since the 970 will be like a 780 all over again, but with a lower TDP and a slightly smaller price tag. Same goes with the 980 compared with the 780 Ti. It's rather disappointing since I was expecting a large performance gap from Kepler to Maxwell as with Fermi to Kepler. But for $400 and gaming on a single 1080p display, I will might as well get the 970 as it will match the 780 in performance anyway.

Looks like NVIDIA currently can't scale performance up as the TDP, only lower the TDP for same performance.
Maybe they're reengineering the GK110 chips for lower TDP.
If a 780 is getting cheaper to buy and maintain, I'd want to get it.

Don't know why people are the I-dont-care-about-TDP-only-performance type. I personally think a lower TDP would result in significant savings in the long run(might even pay you back the price of your card in its lifetime).
