^ I wish my upgrade roadmap was that clear! I feel like I should wait for the 900 series if
a) if GTX 970's price is comparable to GTX770 with a significant performance gain
b) or if GTX770's price plummets appreciably
and of course only if it takes less than 3-4 months for the prices/components to hit the markets here in India. Sadly I think there's no way to know.

I'm itching to get a new card though not sure how long I can hold on 😛

Definitely wait, the 770 was just rebranded and clocked higher gtx 680 which came out a couple years ago, so not worth buying when on the brink of new gpus.

Any idea if the GTX 970 will be in the same price bracket as GTX 770? I need to spare money for a good PSU as well and while my current processor (an i3) will probably bottleneck the 770, with a 970 I'm sure to need a CPU+Mobo upgrade as well, right?

Guess I should wait at least till the specs and prices are revealed, hopefully by mid-September.

Chances are it will be a little more expensive, but the 860 will likely be well priced.

Thanks. Really excited to see what the next few weeks bring!

I just read over the weekends that Nvidia might skip the 800 series for desktop PCs. Today, I found this. Not sure how valid is this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_900_series

It's wikipedia, so probably not reliable.

^ some of the info was based on past info and some are based on current circulated rumor. so yes it is not that accurate. anyway it seems that we are very close to 980/970 announcement. where is the performance leak? 😀

i might skip maxwell altogether. maybe will get new GPU when replacing my current rig

Maxwell will only be worth it if it's 20nm which it isn't and if they can put out the numbers. Rumors going around the 880gtx isn't going to be as strong a card as the 780ti it's just gonna be able to perform well with considerable less power. Well sorry I'm a gamer and I want maximum performance not OK performance with low power draw. I'm sticking with the cards I got until at least the series after maxwell.

Take the rumors salted. Wait and see the benchmarks.

Well it makes sense if the 800 series are just going to be more power sufficient 700 series if the rumors of Nvidia launching a 980 are true.

Technology wise it also makes sense. Would you really want to need a 800 PSU to be able to run a GPU 2 generations down the road?

800 series is just for laptops and mobile devices i heard and the 980 and 970 will be released sept 19th im eager to see the benchmarks as i just sold my x2 4gb 770s while theyre still worth something lol r9 270 to tide me over for the next few weeks

I'm curious to see the 9 series but I'm Leary they aren't gonna top the 780 or 780ti. Awesome if they do but then is it still empty promises on a 20nm? I think so. I honestly believe these are just gonna be power efficient 700 series cards.

Kitguru just said that 900 series are a month away.

The new cards are being shown in 3-4 days and released right after. Goodluck owning a current gen card for the next two weeks.

the article are discussing mid range segment price bracket (this is usually in 200-300 range). note that the article specifically mention GTX960 will launch next month not the 900 series itself. it only talks about nvidia cutting the price of current 770 to sub 300 range to compete with AMD R9 285 right now instead of let 960 to do the battle later on. this is all based on the rumor we heard so far. some speculate that 960 might come much later after 980/970 (maybe late this year or even next year) but there are rumor saying that 960 will come out as soon as October this year.

ok first off swaggedswag if you paid attention that post was made awhile ago. I didnt just buy anything so saying owning a current gen gpu for the next two weeks is a stupid thing to say. Also this just in http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/anton-shilov/nvidias-geforce-gtx-980-will-not-beat-geforce-gtx-780-ti-insider/ just like i was saying earlier. My 780ti's will do me fine and have been thus far. I dont see an upgrade anywhere in my near future.

OK, so based on the benchmarks, the 980 is only a small upgrade from a 780 Ti. Given that despite running a high-end CPU, I'm still sitting on a 660 (I know it's weak compared to the CPU) because I'm still waiting a while to decide what GPU to get next to complete my extreme PC makeover. So I'm thinking that for energy efficiency purposes, then I should get at least a 970. I'll wait until around February to make a decision on this.
