The two scores most closely resembling stock clocks show the GTX 980 at +11% over the GTX 780 Ti.

So a 970 is basically replacing a 780. Sounds reasonable. I'm starting to like the 970 now, but I'll still wait a while because I want my upgrades to occur one step at a time. I may even decide to get the 980 then. Prices will probably drop a bit in about 4-6 months. Income tax early next year, so I'll just wait and see.

But what are the actual stock clocks of the 980? What is the release card gonna ACTUALLY be clocked at? And a dual basically 290x (295x2) beats the 980 in sli? Thats saying a single 980 is slower than a 290x? If the 980 is a faster card than the 780ti which is faster than a 290x then the 980sli should be at the top of that list and its not the 295x2 is. This confuses me....this graph makes no sense.

Yep, a lot of mysteries. I'd chalk it up to the notion that there probably isn't a proper GTX 980 SLI driver profile for Firestrike, and add in the fact that AMD cards tend to do better on that benchmark.

Honestly, they don't look like that much of an improvement over my 780 6gb. I'll wait for real in-game benchmarks of these cards before I make my decision.

Yea same here, looks like I'll be waiting for the 1080? or whatever they call the next series.

I was going to say, even though I think the tech for a single card to push that resolution at 60 frames is actually 2 generations away after 900 series drops.

Does anyone know when the AMD 390X will be coming out and what the price will be in UK?. What will be the price of 980GTX in UK?. I know in the USA, 980GTX will be $499.

Thanks man. That is very interesting indeed. According to rumours, AMD would release the 300 series in November 2014, but that is clearly not going to happen now. More like March 2015. The hybrid liquid cooler does worry me. Sounds like it is going to be a very hot beast just like the 295X2. Rumours are 300-350 watts for the 390X.

Thanks man!. Yeah, I managed to find some interesting articles on videocardz.com and wccftech. Its indeed going to be 900 series. I'm also interested in 390X but after one of you guys posted an interesting link about 390X cooling solution (same as 295X2), I'm thinking whilst it's going to be a very powerful card, it is going to put out a huge amount of heat. I will see what the 980GTX prices will be like. BTW, the 960GTX will retail at £200 (I read in an article only yesterday). So I'm guessing the 970GTX will be £300 and 980GTX will be £400-£450. Kobz360 on youtube said Nvidia are slashing their prices in order to compete with AMD on price point. I hope so!. I love my two Sapphire TRIX 290's BUT they put out way too much heat in Xfire. If Nvidia prices are right for 970GTX or 980GTX, then I will go back to Nvidia.

I read somewhere that because the manufacturing processes were the same and one is just replacing the other that prices were likely to remain about the same, maybe a quid or two more because of their "Shiny!" status.

Hey man, thanks for the info. To get an idea of ballpark figure, the cheapest 780GTX I can find is a Zotac (good brand and 5 years warranty!) on Scan pc for £287 and the cheapest 780Ti that I can find is again a Zotac on Scan pc for £384. So from what you are saying (and the article I read a couple of days ago that the 960GTX will be c.£200 (970GTX is rebranded 780GTX is c.£300 and 980GTX is c.£400-£450) does sound about right. Although knowing Nvidia, they may well try to charge more for their flagship 980GTX (Nvidia are just like intel, they demand stupidly high prices!).

For starters drop the "rebranding" comment as these will be different cards and if you don't understand that then you need to go and read up on Kepler and Maxwell as they are not the same.

On hindsight perhaps I did not choose my words correctly (although I am aware the 700 series is based on Kepler architecture and upcoming 900 series is based on Maxwell). The point I was trying to make is that the 970GTX would be circa on par (or somewhat better) to the 780GTX in performance (but not equivalent to 780Ti in performance).

Fair 'nuff, I just want to nip things in the bud as I've seen such comments get out of control before.

There have been "suggestive" remarks pointing to the GTX980 being as fast if not slightly faster than a 780Ti but then you know what rumours and badly chosen wording can lead to. 😗

The charts I saw only showed a 980 being faster than a reference 780ti and it was marginal and likely that the 980 tested was a oc version kinda like what amd did with the 290x that was sent to toms for testing and review. The actual release card was diff than the one that was sent out for testing having slower clock speeds and fan profiles.

^ i think in 290X it is more complicated than that. the issue is not about OCed model but rather people are suspecting AMD are cherry picking bunch of 290X that will give the best result/score when benched. but in reality the score on actual retail unit might much lesser than the reviewer unit due to the cards having problem to meet it's advertised "up to 1Ghz boost frequency".

as for 980/970 we will know for sure when actual review comes out. and it is about time we be very careful with the leaks as well.

I doubt the gtx 980 or what ever it will be called will be much faster than the 780 ti however it will have more vram which might benefit games like watch dogs when ultra textures...

" I'm assuming more patching will allow gtx 780 ti users to have an optimum experience with watch dogs with ultra textures with resolutions over 1080p"
