Hi All

In my country Windows 10 Pro cost 1899 kr (from the MS site) which is around 316 $.
That's pretty expensive.
Do you guys know a site legit site where i can buy a license that is cheaper?

Cheers! 😀

You don't buy Windows. That's free. Can be downloaded from many places, but the most secure site is MS itself. What costs is the activation key. You can go through any major retailer such as Amazon or Newegg and get the same key as from MS. A windows Pro key will cost more than Windows Home, so if you want to change from Pro to Home you can, just DL a copy of Home, install that instead of Pro and get they key for the new version.

Any major retailer is going to he equitably priced to MS, within a few $, unless you catch a sale.

Yes did know that windows is free. Which is why i asked for a place to buy a license (which is a key) that is not MS own site. In DK we've got more than one company/retailer that is authorized to sell licenses, they are all very expensive raging from 2-400 dollars.
So is there a site (maybe american, or canadian or german etc.) that is authorized and is a retailer to sell MS windows Licenses?
Can one use the license key that came with Windows 8, to activate a Windows 10 Pro ?
oh and btw. I can't use a Windows 10 Home, because of the lack of Group Policy Editor.

okay let me put it another way, i know that in Denmark everything is twice as expensive as it is in another part of the world.
When it comes to America it is fairly a lot cheaper than it is in denmark. In Denmark we have a lot of big-and-small legit authorized companies that sell retail windows 10 licenses.
surely there is the same in America and other parts of the world. I need to find them and find out what price tag they sell the retail windows 10 license for.
Can you help me with that ?

ummm..one more thing.
You do not have to buy the retail version.
The Win10 OEM will do just fine.
The difference between OEM and Retail is no longer like they used to.
The different on Win10 is only about the Microsoft support, no longer about license transfering, etc.
Just get the OEM version.

Do not forget to connect the license number (after activation) with your Microsoft account to make things easier in the fture.

i don't understand you. what are you saying? ...

While you can (legally) download and install Windows 10 Professional direct from Microsoft using their Media Creation Tool, I'm not sure it will provide the necessary functionality you need (Group Policy Editor) without activation.

If you do try this, be sure to note the installation notes:

If you are re-installing Windows 10 Pro for Workstations on your PC, you need to create installation media using the Media Creation Tool and choose Windows 10 as your edition. When you start the installation, choose to skip entering a product key, and instead choose to install Windows 10 Pro. Once you are at the Windows 10 Pro desktop, from the Start Menu, click Settings then Update & security, and Activation. If your PC was previously running Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, click the Go to store button and you can reclaim the edition change to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations at no additional charge.

The official free-update from Win8 or 7 or whatever to Win10 is already long gone but you can try. Perhaps it will still work.

One more thing:
Win10 does work without license (key). You get a kind of watermark and some limitation in functions until you activate it properly.
This could be a temporary solution until you can afford one.
Just be aware that "getting security patches" is among those functions, which are disabled until you buy a valid key.

Ummm.... don't think that's true. One of the mod team has been running Windows 10 un-activated for well over a year now (as a test) and I'm pretty sure he's gotten all of the updates.

hmmm...Yup, you are correct
I just checked one of my emergency PC. It still has an unactivated Win10 since last year. It does seem to receive security patches.
I have rarely turned this one on.
Well...aside from the watermark and desktop background, etc., it seems that Win10 still works fine.
This is cool ^o^
