Hi All

In my country Windows 10 Pro cost 1899 kr (from the MS site) which is around 316 $.
That's pretty expensive.
Do you guys know a site legit site where i can buy a license that is cheaper?

Cheers! :D

I'm that mod.
Dec 2016, Win 10 Pro, running unactivated in a VM. 474 days so far.

Works just as it did on Day 1. Still getting all the relevant updates.
No customization fo the desktop or taskbar, and a randomly appearing nagtext at bottom right.

OP...why Win 10 Pro, specifically?
Do you really need those few extra corporate level features? Performancewise, it is exactly the same as Home.

He needs to use the Group Policy Editor. Since you're running 10 Pro without activation, can you run GPE?

I didn't know that. i thought i was like the old days of windows 7 when you had like 30 day to activate or that system would almost fry it self, locking one out. i better try this on a test machine. :D

Yup i need GPE to be able to control what features i want to block out and de-activate like the Windows Defender and Store, and Cortana ... etc :D

Mod Edit for Language

Yes, things have changed significantly since Win 7.
Win 7 was 30 days full functionality. Then the restrictions start.
Win 10, the (small) restrictions start on Day 1. But so far, there is no 'end date'.
Of course, MS could turn this off at any time.

Before this gets off topic completely, may I just clarify? Do you have an activated, legitimate installation of Windows 10 Home?

I do and so do many of my customers and I frequently unlock GPEdit which is a simple matter.

I'm on aa Linux machine at the moment but later this morning, I'll post the text of a Batch file you can copy and paste into a Administrator Command form and form then on it's as simple matter.

Before you do any of this, look carefully into why you feel the need. This thread went so far off the tracks I don;t think I know what you want to do. Most folks just want to turn off Cortana, GPEdit will do that but only up to a point. Think carefully before bothering to do this.

Start off in c:\windows\system32 and right click the file cmd.exe and select RunAs Administator. In the Command form than shows up, copy this and paste it at the C:\ prompt:-

@echo off
pushd "%~dp0"

dir /b %SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientExtensions-Package~3*.mum >List.txt
dir /b %SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientTools-Package~3*.mum >>List.txt

for /f %%i in ('findstr /i . List.txt 2^>nul') do dism /online /norestart /add-package:"%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\%%i"
pause

Then hit the Enter key.

If you want to shut Cortana down type gpedit.msc in the Search box to open the Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search. Double-click the policy named "Allow Cortana" and reverse the setting.

There's now no need to buy Windows 10 Pro because your Home version will have a GPEdit facility. Use with care.

Yes ... I used it a month or so ago and it activates fine. You'd need the 'pro or 'ultimate' version of win7 or win8 to get win10 pro ... otherwise you get win10 home.

I have been installing Windows 10 Pro without a license key on several machines lately. Just tell the installer you don’t have a key code and it will install. On factory made computers that came with Windows 8 or 8.1 Pro my Windows 10 Pro installs have come up activated. On Windows 7 Pro machines I type in the key code from the license sticker after installing. Both of these methods have worked in the past week.

I’ll give a home-built machine a try this coming weekend with a retail Windows 8 key.

The important thing is to match the version of Windows 10 you install with the license you have, Home or Pro.

You suggested a sketchy source and back it up by saying it's like Ebay which is also a bad option as far as buying licenses goes. Best option is to buy from an authorized Microsoft seller.

True. thats the best option. I know and i agree with you guys.
The only thing is that he asked for a cheap solution.

I'm not trying to kill the messenger.
I'm just saying that your "message" is badly flawed.

Buying licensed software is no different than buying hardware.

If you saw a 250GB Samsung SSD being sold for $20 brand new (and the 'seller' has 300 of them at that price), you'd run away laughing. Knowing it was a fake.

Software is no different.

If they were asking for a PSU would you suggest a cheap unit that could fry the system or do you suggest they spend what was needed to get a proper unit?
Atleast with Windows 10 you can run it unactivated and have a functional system till you can afford to buy a license.
