Where is the Royal Gorge?

The family and I went to Colorado last week and one of the places we
went to was the Royal Gorge in Canyon City.
The Royal Gorge is the highest suspension bridge in the world. Built in
1929 at a cost of $350.00, it is 1053 feet above the Arkansas River.
The bridge is 1,260 feet long and 18'
wide.
I googled the Longitude and Latitude and came up with
Approximate latitude, longitude
+38.4614, -105.3253
&
Geographic Coordinates:
Latitude: 38° 17' 45" N
Longitude: 105° 19' 29" W

I have tried both of these but still no site of the bridge.

Thanks,
Chris

Going by my Delorme Colorado Atlas I think your latitude needs to be 38 27'
45" N
(How did you get the degree symbol from the keyboard?!)

We shall be in the area next month from the UK. Is it worth a visit?

Believe it or not.. I use Delorme Atlas to decide on where to takeoff
and land (FS8) in the USA. The software is ~$49 and if one has HP
DraftPro printer.. large E-size color maps of incredible detail and
quality can be produced. Also use it to plan nearly every driving trip
outside of local travel area.

Views can be centered and zoomed with the mouse.. and coordinates
read out in status bar while hovering mouse. Check out Delorme at:
http://www.delorme.com/

Anyway.. this thread seemed like a fun `map and Paintshop Pro'
graphics exercise. :-] The following are two chart images of the
Gorge area.

Another faucet of Flight Sim is `world geography'. Even pilots /
captains with 1000's of hours experience can explore regions they
never worked while on the job or in the service.

Have you installed the update to create FS9.1? This inserted a lot of
bridges that were missed in FS9 but don't know if yours was one of
them.
:0))

Iain

Yeah I have the update.

Thanks,
Chris

If u don't have the º on your keyboard, you can press the left ALT key and
tape 167 on your number keyboard at right.
You obtain a º.

here's a double shot.. 850 x 1360 pix (942k)

http://home.comcast.net/~g-abbey/Gorge.jpg

No use going down low.. there's no RR tracks, the river is WAY out of
place, and default w/roadways. But the FSG mesh and LC look great!!

-g

p.s. incorrect assumption before.. RR apparently follows river...

Thanks Greg.
I had forgotten about that program. I did look at it a few months ago but
discovered the overseas postage was $35.
However, I have now bought it tonight and getting it delivered to the
friends in Denver we'll be seeing next month.
Delorme were also offering one of the maps for half price so I couldn't
resist. Thank goodness for the baggage allowance!

Hi Gregory,

Pretty nifty, mate - I wish there was one available for Australia!

Much cheaper than most in-car systems, portable, and has voice.

Elegant solution all round.

John Ward
