Hi,

I have built my own pc before but never made my own ethernet cables, but willing to give it a go.

I was planning to wire two rooms in my house taking Cat6 cables from inside the downstairs rooms and then running them outside along the walls upstairs and back into bedrooms. Primarily planning to do this for Sky TV, so will buy a HDMI extender after.

I read that I should avoid CCA and buy UTP, but from the eBay listings I have seen it's not always clear if it is CCA or not.
Also I was unsure if I should get internal Cat6 or external - external I thought originally until i was advised that it can be flammable and you can only bring a particular length inside, not sure if I should be looking for internal or external due to this - I don't plan to bring in a large length inside?

Anyway can anyone please advise me on the best and cheapest option for Cat6 100m none CCA etc please?
I would also need Crimping tool, plugs and write cutter so links to these would also be great please?

Links I found:

(internal only, CCA?)

(External & most expensive from the above - CCA?)

If anyone has suggestions for purchasing the cable elsewhere and price is similar I would consider it?

Thanks in advance

Normally I would say to buy cat5e instead of cat6 unless you can get the cat6 cheaper. Based on ethernet EIA/TIA standard no CCA cable qualifies for use. You will notice the CCA cable never claims it is EIA/TIA complient....well except for some direct import stuff from china.
Using HDMI extenders is a different application. Those actual need the extra abilities provided by cat6 cable. Not sure if CCA is valid for that use but I would not chance it.

When you buy from ebay or even amazon when it is not amazon itself you must be extremely careful. Unless it says very clearly it is solid copper I would not buy it. The extra cost to buy from a reputable vendor that sells directly will be worth it.

You likely can get by with indoor cable on the outside of the house if it does not touch the ground. Rain won't hurt but standing in water will. Sun will eventually damage the jacket but it will take many years, latex house paint tends to be a cheap UV protector. Most outdoor cable is designed to be buried. I have never heard it was flammable mostly you see plenum cable this does not release toxic gas when it is burned. Ethernet cable will burn if it is in flame but it is not like you can take a lighter and start it and it will continue to burn.

Thanks, that was informative.

Any links to ones I should consider buying?
Or any of the links below which you would suggest I go ahead and buy:

Hard to say there is so much wrong in a number of the post which means can you actually trust what the company posts. There are a number of wrong things I saw just in the quick looking though. Cat6 cable is not limited to 50m it is 100m just like all other ethernet unless you are running 10g. There is no such thing as cat6e. There is cat6a which is used for 10g.

I would go to your local hardware/home improvement store and buy it there. If you have any issues with the cable quality it is much easier than dealing with ebay sellers. They likely sell all the tools and jacks you will need also.
