Question Which Linux distro should i install on an HP Compaq dc5850 ?

So, which Linux distro should I install for a school's desktop? (Prediction: I don't know if the school will let me install Linux at home).)

Btw they aren't being used, I bet there are 4 models of that desktop at school.

Specs: (my prediction based on the google searches)
AMD Athlon X2 64 4450B (2.3 GHz / 2 cores @ 2 threads)
ATI Radeon HD 3100 (512 MB vram)
2GB of RAM
Maybe windows vista or XP...

I'm gonna clean the mobo with a little bit of assistance (i might get my uncle, who works with PC stuff too) for that. (Only if the school lets, I don't know what to say about)

And then install Linux.

First find out from the school whether or not you can do what you want with their hardware. They own it, they control it.
