So just as a little back story: Somehow my vizio tv broke when I was transporting it recently. To replace it I got the PS3 3D TV for $180. Turns out it was cheap because it is completely unreliable. After having 2 break on me, I am just gonna return it to best buy. I want the new-new monitor to be a worthy upgrade so all of this cap didn't happen for nothing. Which one would you think is the most sensible to get? I am looking for a lot of different and experienced opinions here so please chime in people!

For reference this is my old TV: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002T922OC/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Here are the 5 I have narrowed it down to:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-ACHIEVA-Shimian-QH270-IPSMS-HDMI-DVI-D-VGA-27-LED-2560x1440-PC-Monitor-/220994030736?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3374454c90

This one is only $400 and it has all the things I want: HDMI for easy PC sound and PS3, built in speakers, and other connectors. I just am really not sure if the price is worth it over 1080p.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CROSSOVER-2730MD-LED-27-DP-Port-D-sub-HDMI-1-4a-2560x1440-PC-Monitor-NEW-/170946483136?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item27cd3453c0&quantity=1&autorefresh=true

This one is about the same price, but it seems like it has better sound and build quality. However the seller seams smaller so it worries me a little.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-WECUBE-ST2770W-LED-IPS-27-2560x1440-WQHD-HDMI-PC-Monitor-Built-in-speaker-/121026833056?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item1c2dc2eaa0

The cheapest of the 1440p's I have listed, but again I am unsure if wecube is good, and if it will have calibration settings.

This one is nice because it has 3D like my old one. However I am unsure if 3D is worth paying for. Also itt is IPS, which I hear is stunning...

This one is by far the cheapest fully featured 1080p monitor I could find. However how much better would the picture quality be than my old vizio?[/strike]

I have heard some good reviews about the korean 1440p displays and I was considering one for my rig as well. But still that doesn't change the fact that I find them unreliable. Of all the options you have given, I'd choose the asus 3d display over the others simply because 1. Asus 3d displays used to be really expensive only a few months ago (priced $500+) and 2. Their Monitors simply look better and more reliable. Now you have to make sure the monitor supports amd hd3d http://sites.amd.com/us/recommended/Pages/hd3d-panels.aspx
otherwise you are better off with a normal 1080p monitor.
With your hd7970, it would make more sense to buy a sharper 1440p display, its just I find the korean Manufacturers unreliable with their products. You...

There are a few problems I have with the 3D display though. Did they drop in price because they are unreliable (Like that PS3 3D display I got)? Also will its 2D look good enough?

In all honesty I really want the Crossover one because it seems to have the best build quality. I haven't seen anyone complain about them. But then again after having one go bad, I don''t want to deal with this again...

Edit: Just saw the 3D ASUS is IPS! Now the decision is even harder...

If you are using a 7970, you'll want to take a look at the Samsung 3D displays, such as the 700, 750 and 950 models (make sure the version you look at is 120hz and HD3D). Those ASUS monitors are 3D Vision compliant, and won't work with your AMD card, except through HDMI (they made the HDMI work with HD3D and playstation). HDMI will limit you to 720p or 30hz.

I personally like 3D a lot, and you also gain 120hz for smoother game play. This would be my choice. The added benefit is extremely demanding games are easier to play at high settings and maintain good FPS, and the easier to play games will run at high FPS and be displayable due to 120hz and when 3D works, it is amazing in my opinion.

Here is a modder's site with lots of fixes for games that aren't normally good in 3D, unfortunately, the fixes don't work as well with AMD...if at all (I believe some do, to a lesser degree).

just had a second look and it turns out that Asus 3d monitor is an entry level 3d monitor made by Asus. They aren't as great as their premium series and you get what you paid for. But that doesn't change the fact that they are still pretty reliable.

Well you can go for the crossover if you want it'd still be a gamble but you got higher chance of winning since they haven't had much complaints as of yet. Ultimately, its your call and your rig would go better with a 1440p display.

@bystander I see you are still a huge fan of 3d, I remember you wrote something about the realistic gameplay of metro2033 with 3d vision in one of my old threads. Too bad its extremely stressful for my eyes so even though I do have 3d vision setup, I almost never use it. Plus the OP has a radeon gpu so its even more impractical to game in 3d. I was only recommending the Asus 3d because of reliability and to occasionally play some 3d videos.

The thing is I am really only interested in 3D gaming on consoles and movies... Is your display IPS? How good does it look?

My primary monitor is a 120hz 3D Vision monitor. All 120hz monitors are TN. It still looks leaps and bounds better than the previous TN panel it replaced. I think you'd be missing out going for 3D only on the playstation. It is going to be limited to 30hz or 720p. 3D gaming on a PC lets you get 60hz at 1080p and far more graphics horse power, which is very needed for 3D.

Yeah but all of the 120Hz monitors are more expensive than the ones I listed, and in my opinion inferior...
