Which Motherboard and CPU should I get?

Hey, hopefully this is the right place to post this. I ruined my old cpu, so far not being able to fix it, I'm now thinking of getting a newer CPU and Motherboard. First off though, if possibile I'd like to try to get my old one to work again. Here's the link to the thread I had at AMD forums-

Here's what I was thinking about getting

It's an amd x2 set, this is going to be mainly a gaming pc so if anyone thinks I should get something please tell. I'm using this store because it's a 10min drive away from my house, incase any of you were wondering.

I've read somewhere about single core cpu's being better for gaming, is this true?
