I'm thinking of building a computer, I will be using 3D Studio Max 3/4 quite a bit, does it make any difference which processor (Intel/Athlon) I go for, I was told Intel runs more stable with 3D studio max but i'm not sure, can anyone help?

What you were told is BS, sorry if it is harsh. No CPU can be more stable than another in a said program, if both are well cooled, and both are not overclocked.

Now 3dS Max 4 has begun having different results thanks to recent SSE 2 optimizations, so you never know.

Here the AthlonXP 2200+ competes very well the P4 2.53GHZ. The XP is clocked at 1.8GHZ and can compete because it has the FPU power at its hands. You can pick up a 2200+ for less than half the price of the 2.53GHZ, and get about 2-5% less performance in it. I don't see you stating any Dual Processor setups, so 3dS Max 4 on a single processor is fully directed at the Athlons.

The performance increase in 3D studio max are under 5% near 0 compare to the 35% increase in Maya 4

The day i meet a goth queen that tell me Intel suck.I turn in a lemming to fill is need in hardware.

AXP are faster on 3D studio max that any P4 all others 3D rendering goes faster on P4.

It all software, Exception to P4 with SIS VIA chipset.
