Hello!

I had a problem with my new Sli rig. It kept shutting down in high res. And always on the same part on 3dmark06. I beleive this is the problem...

So my question is, who would you reccomend for a psu? I mean someone really relliable. And it needs to run -

ASUS A8N Sli Premium
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
2 x Gainward Bliss 7900GTX PCX
2 x Maxtor SATA 200G

My current psu is X-Power 700watt

:?:

Thanks

Everyone has their brand loyalties, but the truth of the matter is that unless you have an engineering degree and a good amount of inside information there is no way to know which power supply will be most reliable. The best you can do is pick a brand, read some reviews, and then take the plunge. Hopefully in 3-5 years you will find out that you chose wisely.

First of all.... you do not need a 700W PSU..... A good 400-500W PSU would be plenty. I would go with a Fortron. Fortron makes PC Power and Cooling and a bunch of others..... they make pretty damn good PSU's. Just go on Newegg and read reviews and see which PSU's people have the least amount of problems with.

That link you supplied says it's noisy..... and it says "Without any doubt, the best products in this review are the power supplies from Enermax, FSP Group and Zalman. Top-quality and easy-to-use, these power supplies can meet the requirements of almost any modern computer and be quiet at that. It’s hard to choose among these models as each of them can satisfy the majority of users." I would go with the Fortron PSU's..... for what they cost and how much luck everyone has with them..... you can't really beat them in my opinion.

ENERMAX LIBERTY!!!

I bought an Enermax Liberty 620 specifically because it was SLI certified. Then it couldn't hack it. I am currently running XFired 1900XTs on a mushkin PS. It's an excellent PS for such apps. 650 watts with four 20 watt rails that autobridge to cover high 12V current load. Newegg currently is offering a MIR so it's pretty affordable.

My video rig also has high 12V current load. I have the OCZ Gamextreme 700 watt PS in it and it's rock solid. The Liberty 620 couldn't hack that load either. Enermax will be releasing a higher 12V current capacity PS this month because the have had so many RMAs on the 620 lately.

My setup was
SLI 7800GTX's OC'ed to max
Opteron 165 @ 2.9Ghz
6 HDD's
2 Optical Drives
Xtreme Music
2 120mm case fans
1 120mm cpu fan

Max power draw that ever came from that setup was 330W. I am using an Antec 480neo..... it's been rock solid so far. What else did you have in your setup cluless other than the 1900XT's? Your 1900XT's should be pulling around 240w.... where my GTX's were pulling around 200 due to the oc. And of course that is under full load. What are the specs of your video rig? What was happening when you had the PSU hooked up?

Not a whole bunch of stuff. Opty 170, OCZ 2x1 DDR500, Raptor 150, one optical, X-Fi, floppy, three 12cm fans, one 8cm. I've OC'ed the GPUs to the max and the CPU to 2.6 on the current PS (mushkin) but the Liberty 620 was unstable with one 1900 at stock clock. I use a good quality Fluke meter to monitor PS voltage to back up Speedfan. With an Evga 6800GS, the Liberty +12V ran at 11.92 to 12.05V. The 1900XT at stock clock pulled it down to 11.80 on the low end and it would spike up to 12.2 occasionally. In comparison, the mushkin is rock solid with two 1900s and OCing them has virtually no effect on the +12V.

What are the specs of your video rig?

Asus A8N32SLI, 4400+, OCZ 2x1 DDR500, X1800XT, two 74GB Raptors in RAID0, two WD400GB YD in RAID1, two opticals, AllInOne front panel fan controller/card reader, three 12cm fans, two 9.2cm fans.

Same as in the game box: the 12V ripple was high and the load was enough to bring the 12V way down. Often, I'd start it up and it would make it into the first Windows screen, then it would shut down. It would boot into Windows more reliably if I pulled the two 400GB drives and one optical off, but it would still occasionally latch. No way I could OC the 4400 with the Liberty but with the OCZ PS in, it seems to idle regardless of load. I never managed to get the Liberty to run 3DM06, but with the OCZ in, it's stable running such loads continuously. Enermax looked at the PS and claims it meets specs. No way. Total BS. Thing is, I have talked to two different hardware techs that used to use the 620 in their development systems but after the introduction of the 1900 and 7900 series cards, they have pulled the Liberty out. Then again, I've seen people on this and other forums using the same PS for SLI'd 7900s and XFired 1900s. Must be right on the rivit for that kind of load.

If you have Big Cash-
PC Power & Cooling - Them things are the shiznit lol! there insane i wish i had that kinda cash.

For my type for budget-
OCZ Modstream 520w (Peak 620w)

This baby is rock solid on my DFI Lanparty Ultra-D. With ram voltages @3.2v! and Vcore@1.525V and cpu@2.65ghz (2.4ghz stock) and my overclocked x1800xl. If you buy one of these ull be happy trust me. They are real nice also for overclocking cause there so stable on the rails its crazy. Another plus is the 120mm fan cause its real quiet.

Anyways Ennermax and Vantec and Thermaltake and i head FSB Group or whatever there called are worth buying.

Yeah, I didn't go looking for a good SilverStone link. I've got the PSU, and it is rock-solid. That link is just to give some information. My computer is noisy all around.

Hope the Liberty series are more relyable then:
ENERMAX EG 701 AX-VE SFMA NOISETAKER 600W SLI

Got one and past couple of days blew up in smoke. Supplier sent another one, and happened exactly the same. Could be a bad batch, but I was very desapointed with Enermax.

Have two PCs with Antec Neopower PSUs and been OK so far.

Hope it helps.

It's a mystery to me. A few years ago, Enermax had built a great rep. Jonnyguru still has them in the second tier of his ratings, etc. The first eye-opener to me was talking to their tech people and seeing that they were avoiding the issues I was having with my unit. When an expensive PS isn't doing the job it's advertised to do in April and a tech tells you to hold off and buy a more expensive unit in July, you know that you're dealing with lame business people. And I didn't just get one peabrain on the phone and give up - I worked through the organization over a period of months and could not find a single person willing to stand up and do the right thing.

dude.....get a coolermaster realpower 550...they tested it here and it passed all their stress testing....it's THG approved...so enjoy......but then again..i have 5HDDs 2 Opticals a insane overclock and one xfx 7800gt running on a Antec SmartPower 500 v2.0. So what would i know
