So i'm about to buy a new pc next month since my current one is dying at the speed of light and been looking to build a Ryzen one since it's alot cheaper then normal.

Having read about ram speed and CL i'm more confused than ever because everytime i try and search for an answer i'm just running in circles because google ain't given me a damn answer no matter how specific i get.

So here's the thing, my motherboard of choice at the moment is a ASUS ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING, Socket-AM4 and i have the choice of a set of Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 16GB CL16 for about 120 dollars or a set of G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 RGB 16GB 3200Mhz CL14 for about 200 dollars which is within my budget. Which of these 2 sets would be the better one to pick if my use is going to be having Black Desert Online running while i do my distant studies for my education and or having that game running while playing something like Dragon Ball FighterZ or just playing something like Star Citizen with a friend of mine.

With the choice of RAM i'm likely to buy an extra set later down the year so i have 32 gb as Star Citizen likes to eat it all up.

Also my graphic card i'll move from my old pc is a Gigabyte Aorus Nvidia Gforce GTX 1080ti.

I play games at 1440p on a 27 inch G-sync ASUS rog swift monitor as it also seems to have a impact on the choice.

Someone save me from this insanity because i'm so lost at this point and really need some easier to understand way of figuring out the better choice.

RAM is a complicated subject that requires a lot of technical understanding. You won't be able to just Google easy answers. Don't feel bad for being confused over it, almost nobody really understands it beyond the surface level of timings and latency so it's best not to rely on internet comments on RAM.

The easiest way to deal with it is just get top quality RAM. Easiest way to do that is through Crucial. They use Micron for their stuff and there really isn't a more professional time tested company for RAM out there. Yes other companies use Micron too, so just make sure of that before buying. Again, I'd just stick to Crucial because they don't really charge much of premium for the quality they offer. Not to mention their customer service is great and they stand behind their product 100%.

I'd also wait and go with a Zen2 processor. For the small price increase you are going to get a better value, even if the claims made at computex are exaggerated it is well worth waiting a month or two.

Your mobo is a bit overkill perhaps. If you like it that's fine, but an MSI gaming carbon pro b450 is a really loaded board for 140$. So there is a little place to save money for more RAM.

For having multiple apps its just about the amount of RAM. 32 GB is what you'll need no matter what quality of RAM you use. I don't think Crucial does any RBG RAM unfortunately. Of your choices though both are using (fact check this, don't trust me) Samsung die and not Micron die. I think this is fine honestly, Samsung is a good company and I would trust them. This being the case I'd definitely choose GSkill over Corsair every time. Corsair will cut corners, GSkill has more pride, so easy choice for me.

Good luck with the new system and give that 1080ti hell!

It's not like Ryzen 3K is in an entirely different price tier or anything, the MSRP for the 3700X is the same as the 2700X and only about $50 higher than what the 2700X is currently going for. Can't say that it'll be worth the extra cash until benchmarks come out (and it's possible the 2700X price could drop further after 3rd gen is out), but I still think it's something to consider.
