Hi
need your help. at the moment i have ordered the follwing parts and they should be coming before next friday.
ASUS P5N-E SLI 650I
CORE 2 DUO E4300 1.86

now i dont know what ram to get. first i was looking to get kingston/corsair 1 gig value ram ddr2 5400/667 mhz for about £24 but seeing as ddr2 6400 is £10-£15 more is it worth buying ddr2 800mhz compared to ddr3 667mhz. the ddr2 800 would cost roughly about £40-£45. also i will be overclocking the cpu after a couple of months

PC6400 will run at 800 mhz +. If you are buying PC5300 value RAM clocking it much higher than it's rated 667 mhz. will most likely be an experience in frustration. I would go with Corsair XMS series if you plan to overclock. Otherwise the Kingston value RAM is generally very stable and will do with a slight overclock.

With the ddr2 5300 ram, you will be able to overclock your cpu to 3.0GHz just fine. If you plan on overclocking higher, then you should get the ddr2 6400. Your choice. I currently have an E4300 OC @3.0GHz with ddr2 5300 and it is plenty fast.

The other reason for getting the DDR2-800, is that even if you don't take the FSB up over 333MHz, the DDR2-800 is far more likely to run @667 and much tighter timings than the 667 value RAM. GL :)

is it worth paying the 13 pound more for ddr800 ram if i was to only overclock my e4300 to about 3.0ghz

Well I own a lot of Corsair XMS, a nice double set of Crucial Ballistic and a double set of OCZ Gold. All perform absolutely excellent. It's really hard to say one performs so much better than the other. If it helps, Corsair did an RMA for me in an instant. Their lifetime warranty service was very fast. OCZ took three weeks to get my replacement DIMMS to me. OCZ online support was very good, but the process was too slow. Any of the RAM you have listed should be excellent. Choices, don't you love it!
